How Spiderman could've had a cameo in The Avengers...

My idea of how Spidey could've made sense with a cameo in The Avengers and how it could make sense for the future of phase 2. Take a look after the jump and share your thoughts.

First off sorry if this article isn't as intricate as most others, but it is my first one. Anyways this is my take on how introducing Spidey in The Avengers could make sense for the continuity for Marvel's phase 2 and Ironman 3. Here goes...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
So when Ironman is falling back to earth after the portal to space closes, instead of Hulk jumping heroically and catching him, you could have a quick shot of a red and blue blur catching Ironman AS Hulk TRIES to catch him. For example you could have a slow motion shot of Hulk jumping to attempt to catch him, then do a high speed transition of Spidey swooping him out of the air (hence the speed blur) and hear a few web shooting sounds before you cut to the next scene. Upon the next scene, you could have Ironman hanging inches from the ground suspended by a few webs linked to nearby buildings.

Cut to the rest of the Avengers showing up by Ironman's side and Thor ripping his face mask / helmet front off, followed by Captain America making a quick comment about the webbing and the "mystery man" before being cutoff by Hulk roaring, and then Tony Stark waking up as it happened in the movie. Then Hulk sees the "mystery man" swinging multiple blocks down range and he spontaniously decides to chase him, for whatever reason we do not know. Captain America and Thor then converse something to the effect of " Help me get Tony up./ What about Banner?/ Let him go for now. He'll find his way back, he always does".

Cut to Ironman, Cap, Thor, Widow and Hawkeye eating their schwarma and Tony asks Widow "So where did Dr. Banner go?" and She simply replies "S.H.I.E.L.D. is working on tracking him". Then Tony asks "So who the hell caught me?" and to that she replies "I will debrief you as soon as possible. But can we please finish eating first?"
------------------------------------------------------------------------

The spidey thing could be explained if Spidey was fighting Lizard in another city at the time the alien invasion began, and finished off his out of town business just in time to swoop in and catch a fellow hero. You would'nt ever have to show Spiderman in full, just a blink and you miss it cut of him rounding a corner or even a quick long distance shot to establish the color of his suit.

Anyways sorry for the lenghty post, but I've been wondering if that could make sense or seem like a cool idea. Two thumbs up to the billion dollar beast we call The Avengers. Goodday.

I think some sort of Spiderman easter egg would've been cool, but to have a character who had nothing to do with the rest of the movie come in and save the day at such a crucial, climactic moment wouldn't have had nearly the same level of emotional payoff in terms of the story being told as having Hulk/Banner catch Stark does. Hulk catching him is one of the film's most epic moments, even though you totally knew it was going to happen. Changing it would be crazy.

The Oscorp building in the NY skyline would have been perfect. sucks that they didn't get time.
I dont mind so much spidey not being involved in the avengers films, but if it FEELS like the same world with really subtle hints like that, it adds to the experience.

I think it was fine with Hulk catching him. It would have been cool, if Spidey had but not necessary. On how Spidey could be linked to the MCU, TASM could be after the Avengers.

Interesting idea, but a cameo shouldn't be so essential to the plot. I agree that putting the Oscorp building in the skyline would have been pretty awesome.

Also, given the release dates, it would be pretty reasonable to just assume that ASM takes place after Avengers if you wanted to fit them together. If I were to give Spider-man a cameo, I think it would make more sense for him to just be Peter played by Andrew. I think during the Chitauri attack they could have showed Peter taking some pictures, then maybe left some of the pictures on his desk in ASM.

Would be good to join the universe but even if TASM was set after The avengers there would surely be a stark tower visible. I'm not sure we're going to see Marvel own all their characters, FF seems to be realistic pursuit though.

@Thereaperassassin you realise Avengers and The Amazing Spider-Man are both set in New York, right? So Spidey wouldn't have fought the Lizard in another city. Plus, Spidey would've helped the Avengers out. And then, wouldn't there also be a big alien invasion during The Amazing Spider-Man while Spidey fight's The Lizard?

Sorry, but while you may have had an idea there, it doesn't seem very well thought out. That scene was to show that even The Hulk felt like a member of the team at that point, and that he finally found some people he could trust. Having Spider-Man swoop in and save the day instead would've been so cheesy and distracting.

Besides, they could easily be set in the same universe, TASM could just be set after The Avengers. However, it's unlikely, since Spider-Man seems like the strangest thing anyone in NY has seen in TASM, surely an Alien Invasion would've made them more used to odd goings on. As for the thing about Oscorp tower and Stark tower not being seen in each other's films - you never see every building in NY in either film, do you?

ACira, you're right about the building thing and the NY citizens perception of spiderman being the strangest thing ever. I think its not important whether these films are set in the same universe as in the comics how many things that happen in spidermans series have ramifications in avengers and visa versa? You never know when one things happening at a time like spider island for example or ends of earth. AXV is happening but not in spidermans comic.

@Name in the comics it works, but in the movies, where not much has happened in these film universes at this point, something big like an alien invasion would've been noticed - it's a life changing event that would have global ramifications, so how is it that in The Amazing Spider-Man that the strangest thing the people of NY have seen is Spidey himself, and then the Lizard?

If the film is set before The Avengers, then I guess it's easier to write off Spidey's lack of involvement as him simply not having been there... but again, people in NY will still know about Tony Stark being Iron Man, or the fact that The Hulk once "broke Harlem", so why would a 'Spider-Man' or a man sized Lizard monster be such a strange concept?

I don't know... On the one hand, I'd love to see Spidey alongside the Avengers, even if it's just a cameo. But they really need to think about how they do it. And on the other hand, if the crossover could do anything to ruin the integrity of either film series (and it could if it isn't handled right), then I'd rather they just leave it alone and don't bother.
