The movie begins with Batman holding a joker-like gang member for nagotiation in a warehouse. The police surround the warehouse, and a black car follows them. A man in the black car sterps out, and calls himself Dr.Edward Enigma. Enigma is informed on the situation, but Batman escapes the Swat.
A man is in a hospital wakes up from a one year coma. His name is Thomas Elliot, he was a doctor trapped in the hospital when Joker blew it up. When he learns what happened to him he seeks revenge on Batman for not saving him. He escapes from the hospital and heads into the streets of Gotham. Thomas names himself Hush, and goes to the mob for help. He meets a man named Black Mask. Hush is hired by Black Mask as an assassin.
The Riddler over time becomes obsessed with Batman. He begins to kill people and leave riddles to bring Batman to the breaking point. A fellow detective becomes suspicious, and begins to monitor him. The Riddler notices, and kills him with out leaving a trace.
Meanwhile Bruce becomes stressed. He hires a an equally mad friend of the Riddlers(without knowing so)named Hugo Strange(a cameo) to help him. Hugo tells the Riddler everything. Hugo then uses a new drug to have Bruce tell Hugo him deepest secrets, and tells Hugo he is Batman. Hugo quickly tells the Riddler.
With this new information he goes to Black Mask. Now partnered with Riddler, Black Mask send Hush to Wayne Manor.
With Batman suspicious of Hugo he digs into files. He then discovers his alliance with the Riddler, and who the Riddler is. Bruce gives the info to the police and Riddler and Hugo are sent to Arkham.
Hush kills Alfred but Bruce escapes, and goes into hiding. Bruce's dissaperance is all over the news(www.wheresbrucewayne.com copyright!!!). With Bruce thought to be dead Black Mask takes action. He destroys the city, and practically takes it over.
Meanwhile, Hush realeses all inmates from Arkham asyulm. He then gathers the most notorious and heads into Gotham. However, Batman stops them in their tracks. Hush realizing that there is no way they could win, leaves the scene. Bane( a cameo) and the inmates attack Batman(Mark Millars fight scene outside Gotham). While this happens Bane breaks Batman's back, and then the police arrive. The police immediatley shoot down Bane and all the other inmates. A boy who was at the scene gets Batman and drags him away. The boys name is Dick Grayson, and Batman realizing Dick is his only hope, tells him to bring him to the Batcave.
Dick takes care of bruce, while Gotham goes downhill. Batman gives dick a Batman-like suit anf many other materials to fight crime.(Dick will be a modernized Robin, he is around 19 years old.)Dick doesn't handle well, even though he was a profesional fighter.
After one year of Gotham being destroyed Batman returns. He slowly fights crime with Robin. They begin to put inmates in Arkham again, and trys and find out where Black Masks base of operation is.
After a month of Batman fighting crime again, Black Mask holds the mayor hostage. Batman and Robin go in, and go in stealthy. Black Mask and his guards are brought down by Batman, but Hush escapes.
Hush holds Gordons family hostage, and paralyizes Oracle. Batman nagotiates with Hush, and Hush gives in, he is then sent to Arkham. With the crime finally stopped Gotham begins picking itself up. Batman is freed of charges, and he realizes he will nevers stop being Batman.
