Thoughts on the Joker in Batman: Arkham City

I was thinking earlier, about the Joker. About what his huge plan was. Well, what did I think of? You'll have to read to find out!

"Watch out! I've got a bomb!"

And with those six words, we were introduced to the newest, and one of the greatest, Joker's of all time. Mark Hamill was voicing him. He was a mixture of Heath Ledger and BTAS. He had a new design. He told jokes in every sentence. He was great.

In Arkham City, we went deeper, seeing a sick Joker.

In interview tapes, we were told the origin of Joker, straight out of the Killing Joke. It was great. Then it happened. Joker died.

Many fans have speculated that Joker didn't die. That he was faking his death. That it was Clayface. But my theory is unlike any you have heard. I say that yes, Joker is dead. Mark Hamill retired from Joker. Sure, his body is missing, (Read the comics) but any goon could have done that. Penguin goon? Hell yes. So, Joker is dead in my opinion. For sure, who knows? So, to the actual theory.

Joker is most definitely dead. And that was his plan. From the beginning of Arkham City, his plan was to die. Think about it. He had the cure, what? Two times over the course of the game? Why didn't he take it? Because he wanted to die. Batman had the cure at the end of the game, and Joker literally stabbed his shoulder. Why? Because he wanted to die! He wanted to die so that Batman would become angry and secluded, as he is in Harley Quinn's Revenge. Not because Joker died, but because Batman had the chance to save him, but he couldn't. It was all so perfect! When Talia was added to the equation, it became even better. He could kill the girl, die, and leave Batman with that. It was perfect. He knew Harley would go completely out of her mind, and that would make things even worse for Batman. In fact, he probably found it funny.

The Lazarus Pit is out of the question, as the technology and Wonder Tower were practically destroyed. So, what's next for the Dark Knight? We can expect a much more grim attitude. Harley Quinn will most likely be out of the picture, and so will Joker. There will be thugs, Oracle, and others mention him, and his death may fit into the main story, but, who really knows? I hope you liked my interpretation of Jokers death, and my small prediction for the future. I'm going to leave you with this one quote.

"Death is the greatest joke of life."

I wouldn't call the arkham city Joker a mix of Heath ledger and BTAS. I would just call it a more mature version of the BTAS version. Heath ledgers joker is in no way as awesome as Hamills and the design isn't that new in fact it's just his classic design. But article is good other than that

I was thinking he was like Ledger because of his twisted views, complex plans, and because he was dark.

And I'm saying he wanted to die because there would be so much chaos in the crater he made. Batman would become much more secluded, Harley would go completely insane, his goons would leave the gang, because they don't want Harely in charge. All the super villains would be killing each other for control after J's death, the press would go nuts. It would all fit into sheer chaos.

This is really thought provoking. I think maybe there's a more grand scheme than just chaos. Remember, Arkham will fall and all hell will break loose into Gotham according to Azrael. Could Joker be trying to distract him from a larger plot already in the workings?

Maybe Joker's death will lead to all hell breaking loose?

Maybe Joker's death is the precurser to what Azreal was talking about.

I want to see the Red Hood in a sequel. I think they should have the Red Hood come into town looking for vengeance against the Joker then he finds out the Joker died so he goes crazy and takes his frustrations out on Batman and Gotham. Also they could create some story arcs about Harley being pregnant and Clayface falling into the Lazarus Pit because both of those are things that could expand on.

@comiccow6 and justified1 Yup, remember, we have a whole slew of Joker thugs needing to follow somebody. Arkham has been 90% evacuated in the HQR DLC, but where are the inmates? Maybe in Bludhaven, waiting to attack it and Gotham?

Well, think about it. He knew he was dying, so he started a series of events that would lead to his death. After that, the ultimate chaos would ensue in the wake of his death. He improvised.

Interesting theory. But I agree Joker should stay dead. His death should affect Bruce, but not be a major plot point in the next game. Mark is my favorite Joker by far, but I think focusing on other villains would be pretty good. Scarecrow has some big plans for Gotham. And I'm sure Ra's is pissed for his daughters death, even just slightly.

I'm even more excited for the next game than I was for Arkham City, because there are so many theories.
