Where the F*CK are the accents?

Where the F*CK are the accents?

My complaints on the characters in the CBM universe with no accents?

Lets start of with Colossus. Our first taste of Colossus was in X2:X-Men United when he walked in, like a gangsta and turned metal and laid down some ass whuppin on the government, then he talked and we noticed Colossus, doesn't have the Russian accent, he had in the cartoons and comics.

He wasn't poorly casted it was just where is the accent, we didn't even hear it in X-Men 3 the Last Stand.

Next my personal favorite, Gambit.Taylor Kitsch had Gambits cool, he had his charm(No Homo) but he was lacking one thing, that French accent

I know Gambit as the French card dealing, street hustler and I expected a French accent, I was utterly disapointed.

Now Storm, played by sexy, beautiful, talented Halle.......Berry, but she had that, slight African accent moment in X-Men but, she didn't have the full on African accent, thats why she is considered a bad choice for Storm, she didn't deliver the accent

Black Widow, played by our generations Marilyn Monroe(sorry Mrylin Manson's that goth rocker chick, I meant Marilyn Monroe), Scarlett Johanson. She is sexy and a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better choice for Black Widow than Emily Blunt(Blunt cant act and she isn't and never will be as sexy as Scarlet), but Scarlet, husband of Deadpool and Green Lantern keep up with times give us a little hit at the Russian accent, Rourke did it perfect, but at least give us an accent in the Avengers, please.

Now I'm not putting all the blame on the actors for not providing an accent, I'm blaming the studios, the writer, the director. The biggest issue is Fox Studios and Bryan Singer, Jon Favreau and Paramount are not an issue.

I think you mean Marilyn Monroe.

Also, while I'd rather hear an accent than not hear it, I'd also rather not hear it than hear it butchered. I like Scarlet fine, but I did not think she could pull of a Russian accent believably.

Ha! ScarJo looks just like Marilyn Manson!

I actually put the blame on bothe the directors AND the actors. As you mentioned, Halle had the accent to begin with but she couldn't pull it off convincingly so she dropped it. Knowing Daniel Cudmore's abilities, he probably couldn't carry an accent in a pretty little basket. I would bet they didn't have Johanssen use an accent simply because Rourke had one and to have two characters using a Russian accent may have been over kill.

Having the characters use accents would be nice, I agree, but not essential or crucial to the films.

Oh maybe in the avengers they'll allude to it with her speaking rusian to translate or something

It's possible she doesn't have it because she's still "undercover" in some unknown capacity.

Gambit's Cajun, from New Orleans. So, not French. Not technically.

ScarJo not having the accent brought up quite an uproar back in Spring when footage of her actually talking surfaced. but Poni has put all of his reasoning behind it in a realistic way.
Black Widow is an ex-KGB superspy who has had to infiltrate many US territories in her long career. i am certain that she had to adopt an American accent to blend in.
spy 101: you do NOT want your opponent to know who you are or where you came from. therefore, the accent had to change. i just hope that the Russian accent appears in the Avengers as a fan nod.

MrAnonymous - I see what you are getting at, but i have to say i agree with everyone else. they all have pretty valid reasons for not using the accents, except for Storm, and i dont think that really mattered that much

and if they made all the cb characters use their accents in the movies, then almost every goon would say youse and talk like a fool

I was pretty peeved that Scarjo didn't use a Russian accent.I mean Mickey Rourke did and his character was made up (I know Mickey Rourke is a far better actor).
Hopefully they will fix that in The Avengers.

I don't think she's Russian in the movie continuity. They'll probably explain how her parents were Russian defectors during the cold war, explaining the name, but I don't think she's an ex-KGB agent like in the comics, as she's too young for that and I dubt they'd go the "arrested aging" route since with Cap and Fury, you've got too much people who are much older than they look.

Agreed - this 'homogenized' Marvel universe makes me want to puke! The characters are SUPPOSED to be from all around the world, at least let them SOUND like they are!!

One point of contention - you said Scarlett Johanson was a good Black Widow. What are you on and did you bring enough to share with everyone? I've got two words for Scarlett Johanson - "Olga #@$!-ing Kurylenko!"

- 'nuff said

scarjo should have had the accent but fury explained that she is of russian descent but raised american (or english. i can't remember)

Denn1s - So basically they're changing the essence the character because they don't think an American audience wants to hear a Russian accent?! WFT?!!

If Black Widow is not an ex-russian agent (doesn't have to be soviet), you just took a dozen great stories and just threw them out the window.

i agree that wiow doesnt need one being a great spy... at all. take burn notice she completely dropped from the show with a good explanation maybe widow did the same. or maybe shes a double agent

MassExecutions - TOTALLY AGREE! And she doesn't have to be 'Soviet' (per se), the KGB is now the FSB (same sh!t, different name)! Get with the program Faveau!

@Denn1s
i think you're referring to Emil Blonsky from the Incredible Hulk. he was born in Russia and raised in England. this was said to Gen. Ross from his friend who got the tranfer for him, Gen. Joe Greller. i do not recall at all if Fury described Natasha's origins to Tony in any respect.

FYI guys - Halle Berry DID have a slight (but clearly distinguishable) accent in X-Men 1, but dropped the accent entirely in X-Men 2 and 3.

Totally agree that they should have kept their accents though. the whole point of introducing characters like Colossus, Storm and Gambit was to diversify the X-men. That's why those 3 characters (plus, Nightcrawler, Shadowcat, Thunderbird/Warpath, etc.) are from such distinct ethnic backgrounds. Taking away their accents is like saying that we're not ready for that yet.
