THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS TV Spot Features "It's Clobberin' Time" Scene (And Takes A Shot At SUPERMAN)

Marvel Studios has released a new TV spot for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and as well as putting the spotlight on one of The Thing's biggest scenes, it seemingly takes a subtle shot at Superman...

We're about to enter The Fantastic Four: First Steps' fourth weekend in theaters, and Marvel Studios has just released another critics TV spot for the Matt Shakman-helmed reboot.

There are several snippets of previously unreleased footage, with the main highlight being The Thing saying his iconic line, "It's Clobberin' Time." Ebon Moss-Bachrach nailed it, and this hopefully won't be the last time we hear him utter it in the MCU.

Many fans are also convinced that the TV spot takes an (admittedly fairly minor) shot at DC Studios' Superman. The promo declares The Fantastic Four: First Steps as "the best reviewed superhero movie of the summer."

It seems Disney isn't counting Thunderbolts* as a summer movie—that sits at 88% on Rotten Tomatoes—and with an 86% score on the review aggregator, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is indeed better-reviewed than Superman (83%).

Of course, we'd be remiss not to point out that Superman is the highest-grossing superhero movie of not just this summer, but the entire year. As of yesterday, the Man of Steel's latest blockbuster had grossed $335.6 million in the U.S., compared to the $236.7 million earned by Marvel's First Family.

Check out this new TV spot for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, along with a new H.E.R.B.I.E. featurette, below.

Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel’s First Family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they face their most daunting challenge yet.

Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.

Also appearing are Natasha Lyonne as Rachel Rozman, Paul Walter Hauser as Harvey Elder/Mole Man, Sarah Niles as Lynne Nichols, and Mark Gatiss as Ted Gilbert. John Malkovich was set to play Red Ghost, but was cut during post.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is directed by Matt Shakman from a screenplay by Josh Friedman and Eric Pearson and Jeff Kaplan & Ian Springer.

In our review of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, we concluded, "The Fantastic Four is an exceptional introduction to the MCU’s First Family, and thanks to a Jack Kirby-infused feel that’s unlike anything we’ve seen before, it proves to be a quintessential superhero movie with Marvel Studios at its brilliant best.

The movie is now playing in theaters.

Fantastic Four taking a "shot" at Superman is like the Clevland Browns fans taking a shot at Atlanta Falcons fans.

Thunderbolts is the best cbm of the year. And even that wasn't all that special.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Sadly, you're somehow right. My goodness was this year horrific. Thunderbolts was awful yet it is the best

Man , I always thought May counted as the start of the summer movie season and I still feel it does which makes Thunderbolts technically the best reviewed superhero movie of the summer/year.

Anyway , that “it’s Clobberin Time” was great!!.

Good enough, underwhelming and that Lee-Kirby feel missing. That's FF 2025. Time is running out on us older gen guys to see the Fantastic Four done right cinematically.

@GeneralZod - Afraid you are right.

Oh Well, I stil have my classic comics story arcs to entertain and inspire me, that's all that truly matters.

@mountainman - I thought about that, but i think what the studio is going to do is give the FF the Hulk treatment: feature them as a supporting act in upcoming Marvel Studios movies. Very unexpected to see Disney spend big $$$ to acquire Fox Studios in no small part to reunite the FF and X-Men cinematically with the rest of Marvel ... and we got an FF film that was underwhelming.

Imagine having less critics review your movie and also having a movie make 100 million plus more. Crazy......

What a weak scene for a weak movie. This taking a shot at diaperman is like Birdemic taking a shot at the room. 2 horrific movies

That’s not taking a shot at Superman. They’re just talking up the movie the best way they can. They can’t say “best reviewed film” or “best reviewed summer blockbuster”. This lets them be “the best” at something without being disingenuous and that’s ok.

DC & GUNN keep moving the goal post. The movie cost $270Million to make with over $250 million on promo & marketing the movie made around $580 Million & The Box Office takes 1/2 of that & THEY CALL IT A SUCCESS???!!!!!! They LOST $$$$$!!!! Ppl don't make movies to make less $$ than it cost to make the movie. THATS BANKRUPTCY!!!! Man Of Steel with the SAME tickets sale prices makes $980 MILLION DOLLARS compared to Gunns Movie!! Thats facts, truths & Numbers!

F4 makes only $8 million on it's 4th weekend according to Deadline.com.

It won't reach $500 million worldwide.

While i liked the movie (8.5/10) and have seen it 3 times so far, there were things which i didn't like, mostly The Thing.
