HARRY POTTER Reboot HBO Max Series In Development; J.K. Rowling Involved

Some sure-to-be divisive news here, as it's been confirmed that a new Harry Potter HBO Max series that will serve as a full reboot of the film franchise is in the works...

Warner Bros. Discovery boss Davis Zaslav confirmed plans to revisit both the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings franchises late last year when he took over as head of the studio, and we've heard rumors about several different projects since.

Now, Bloomberg is reporting that a Harry Potter reboot series is officially in development for the HBO Max streaming service.

Apparently, the show would re-adapt J.K. Rowling's best-selling fantasy saga, with each season focusing on one instalment in the seven-book series.

Rowling will be involved with the project "so she can “ensure it remains loyal to her original material,” but she is not expected to be appointed as showrunner.

Though we're still awaiting confirmation from HBO, several major outlets have run with the story, so we'd say it's legit. Though fans will no doubt be excited by the prospect of a return to the Wizarding World, we can see the fact that this series will reboot the much-loved movies being highly divisive.

Though the movies generally weren't viewed as perfect adaptations by any means, they remain very popular with the fanbase, and it's difficult to imagine audiences warming to the prospect of new actors taking on the roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, etc.

What do you guys make of this development? Drop us a comment down below.

@ComicBookPsycho - I really hope they do a good job on this, I don’t want them to “CW” this up!

The first 4 books are fairly tightly written and edited but once she became a phenom the books got longer and longer and more self indulgent. Don't get me wrong, I read them all but she spend a lot of time on tangents.

@Twiz1331 - Blame Riverdale for that. The rest of their former slate of shows didn't have the anywhere close to the amount of subpar plots and dialogue, etc. If their name got a bad rep is thanks to that very wacky show.

@Reginator - Because JK Rowling said that only women can get their period. The crazy bitch.

@Reginator - it's really not.

It's just there are enough people online who can't handle jk having her own opinion they have to make buying a Wizarding world game she had no actual involvement in a political stance and shaming people into not buying it.

But of course most don't care what she believes in and really like Harry Potter so they made hogwarts legacy crazy successful to the point we're getting all these new projects spinning off from it.

@Reginator - because JK Rowling told an uncomfortable truth, Trans women are not the same as biological women.

Jesus Christ, can we let something actually get a couple of decades before it's remade, don't get me wrong, I was all for it when the original actors were in their 50s or 60s, and a new generation could enjoy a new take on it (with the subplots in the books getting time to be fleshed out) but it's far too soon

@dancingmonkey08 - I mean, technically, it has been more than a couple of decades since the first movie was released

@dancingmonkey08 - I kinda tend to agree. The audience demographic is probably the same generation who grew up with the movies.

It's been already a decade since the last one, but it still feels too soon indeed. Would be like remaking The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings already. Everybody still has the stories fresh in their minds.

@dancingmonkey08 - This may shock you, but the first Harry Potter movie was released over "a couple of decades" ago.
