In an interview with Collider, the director of Star Trek and Mission Impossible III talked a little about his commitment, or lack thereof, to the highly anticipated sequel to the 2009 hit. Head on over to the site to read the whole thing and hear what else he had to say about the various projects he's working on at the moment.

"I guess the idea of not wanting to choose to direct a film, for which I’ve not read a script. It’s a tough decision to make without seeing any pages. That’s not to say that I don’t have all the faith in the world in the spectacular writers. Damon Lindelof, Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman are awesome. My hope is that they’ll write the script, it will be great and we can make a fun, exciting sequel to Star Trek."

As I think you can see from his comments above, he clearly hasnt signed on to direct the highly anticipated sequel if he's still waiting to read the script. As he's worked with Lindelof, Orci and Kurtzman on both the first movie and various other projects, I'm sure that he will eventually decide to helm the project. However, with a release date set for the summer of 2012, and several TV projects (along with the mysetious movie Super 8) will we still see it that soon?
