Earlier today, we told you that Star Wars: The Force Awakens was on track to pass the $300 million mark in North America by close of business today. Well, as the movie continues to exceed box office expectations, it managed to reach that benchmark by midday! That means it set a new record by hitting $300 million in five days, easily topping Jurassic World's current record of EIGHT days.

To put this into context for you, it took nine days for The Avengers, ten days for The Dark Knight and Avengers: Age of Ultron, twelve days for The Dark Knight Rises and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, fourteen days for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Iron Man 3, and 15 days for Avatar and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. Now, is it going to beat Avatar or not? It's still too soon to say, but it's worth noting that that movie opened to $77 million on the same weeked in 2009 before becoming the highest grossing movie of all-time with $2.79 billion worldwide. While many predicted that Star Wars: The Force Awakens wouldn't have much in the way of longevity, it appears as if it most definitely does, and records are meant to be broken...
