To many fans' delight, but most's dismay; Humour in the DC Extended Universe has been few and far between thus far. And because of this, many will be glad to hear what Shazam director, David F. Sandberg, has to say about the tone of his movie.

He recently payed a visit to a Reddit thead, which was entitled the question it posed: So, is it safe to say that Shazam! will probably be the DCEU's first comedic movie? And provided them with their answer.

Here's what Sandberg had to say about Shazam's humour:

I think it's very funny but the humor comes more from the situations rather than quippy one-liners (for people who read too much into things, that's not intended as a dig at Marvel or anyone in particular. Quippy one-liners can be great).

The important thing for me is to mix the funny with a threat that's serious and to also have dramatic moments. All funny all the time takes the weight out of it.

This, more or less, provides us with an idea of what to expect from the tone of the movie; That being more inline with the comics of which it is based on as well as other comic book movie cinematic universes, namely the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which David is careful not take a jab at.

What do you think about David's comments? Would you have preferred a darker take on the character or are you pleased with the direction it's taking?
