The first Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer generated a lot of speculation among fans, with a shot of Tom Holland's wall-crawler battling The Hand proving particularly intriguing.
Similar to how the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer edited out Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men from the Statue of Liberty battle, many are convinced that Peter Parker has a hidden helping hand against the ninja clan. There is a lot of space in the frame, so who's missing?
Daredevil? Jean Grey? Another Spider-Man, perhaps? Or is it all just baseless speculation? During a recent interview, Garfield was asked about the scene, but wasn't buying what the radio show host was selling.
"This feels like a reach, to be honest. What do you mean there's room for other characters? There's literally just space under Spider-Man," the bemused actor replied. "They're all heading to Spider-Man. Well, there's room for more characters in every frame of the film, probably! [Laughs]"
"This is insane. This is absolutely ludicrous, conspiracy theory-level attempts at like investigative journalism. You've lost your damn minds," Garfield continued, before jokingly (we think) adding, "You noticed that I didn't say I wasn't in it, right? [Laughs]"
While The Amazing Spider-Man star isn't currently expected to appear in the next Spider-Man movie, it's been repeatedly rumoured that he will be part of Avengers: Secret Wars. Maguire may cameo in Avengers: Doomsday, but whether we'll get a full-blown Spider-Men reunion at some point is a mystery for now.
Tom Holland isn't expected to reprise his role as Peter Parker in the latter movie, as Marvel Studios instead focuses on establishing him as a street-level superhero. With that in mind, his Secret Wars role may be relatively minor.
