Spider-Man: Brand New Day Rumor Reveals Why Peter Parker And The Punisher Fight [Spoiler]

A new Spider-Man: Brand New Day rumour explains why the web-slinger and Frank Castle are forced to fight the Savage Hulk, but what does it have to do with a certain member of the X-Men?

There's a very good chance that we'll learn more about Spider-Man: Brand New Day at CinemaCon tonight. A trailer is wishful thinking this soon after the teaser, but a poster and some story details are certainly possible.

We'll keep you updated on that front, but a new rumour is receiving a lot of attention online today. This one comes our way from frequent leaker @MyTimeToShineH, who claims to have learned what leads to the return of the Savage Hulk and why he ends up fighting Peter Parker and Frank Castle.

Making sense of a few previous Spider-Man: Brand New Day rumours, the insider writes, "Jean Grey will take control of the Hulk and turn him into Grey Hulk." From there, the powerful psychic will reportedly "make him fight Spider-Man and Punisher."

When we meet the MCU's Jean Grey, it seems she'll have a penchant for controlling minds. Why she'd force the Hulk to fight his fellow heroes is a mystery to us, especially as this paints her in a somewhat villainous light.

Yet again, we're forced to wonder whether the whole "Jean Grey" narrative is a huge misdirect on Marvel Studios' part, especially when it still doesn't make much sense for the X-Men icon to debut in a Spider-Man movie.

Still, if Jean is being influenced or controlled by the Department of Damage Control, we can't discount the possibility that she's not exactly herself when the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day play out.

One thing we can say for certain, though, is that Spidey's newfound alliance with The Punisher will be front and centre in this movie.

That's something Tom Holland alluded to in a recent interview, when he teased the dynamic between the two characters. "I am so excited for people to see John Bernthal as the Punisher in this movie. You know, he's come from a very different world."

"He's in the R-rated universe, and we've basically picked him up and plonked him into our world, and he absolutely sings in this movie. He is incredible," the actor continued. "The relationship between Spider-Man and the Punisher is so funny, and it changed a lot, and it evolved a lot as we were shooting because Jon and I would improvise."

"It started as this relationship of two people that really kind of hate each other, I guess, and then as we started improvising, it became this big brother-little brother rivalry, and it might be my favourite dynamic that I've ever seen with Spider-Man," Holland added.

Check back here later for all the updates on Spider-Man: Brand New Day from CinemaCon.

Following the record-breaking success of Spider-Man: No Way HomeSpider-Man: Brand New Day begins a brand new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult and living alone after erasing himself and the memories of him from those he loves.

In a New York that no longer knows his name, he has devoted himself wholeheartedly to protecting his city as Spider-Man full-time. But as the demands on him grow, he is put under increasing pressure. This triggers an unexpected physical change that threatens his existence, while a strange wave of crime emerges - and gives rise to one of the most dangerous threats he has ever faced.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day's cast includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo.

The movie is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers. The film is produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Rachel O'Connor.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.

I must admit I really want this to work, one of the early comic books I remember is the one with Spider-Man and the Punisher. I just hope he’s not been too restrained and he gets to crack some heads.

This particular rumor just sounds like how I used to play with my X-Men action figures when I was 10, so I'm gonna say.... doubt it.

@SummersEssex - honestly , some of these movies are made somewhat like that so I could perhaps see it being true.

Marvel has never once said Sadie Sink is playing Jean Grey but Wilding thinks her playing Jean Grey could be a misdirect. Amazing logic there.

@BreakTheCode - we know for a fact that Marvel puts out false rumors. Hell, they put out lies in their trailers all the time. So, a studio absolutely can lead a misdirect without anything official having been announced.

@BreakTheCode - All these insiders spreading these rumors have contacts and insight we know nothing about; just like people in any given profession. Plenty of times they are actually right. I'm not saying Wilding is one of these insiders; but these rumors don't all just come out of thin air.

If Sadie Sink is Jean Grey, I wonder if Charles Xavier will make an appearance in the movie. Maybe it's Keith David ?

Couldn't anyone speculate this as a possible story? It must be nice that guys like TimeToShine get to make stuff up and are actually treated with respect due you the desperation for daily updates

If Sadie is Jean Grey, I bet when she goes into Bruce's mind, she unlocks HULK accidentally. They won't paint her as a villain right off the bat. Jean is never in control of her powers in the beginning.

As much as I want to see Hulk be Hulk again, I don't like that he's getting Wanda'd again.

Genuinely wouldnt be surprised if punisher beat hulk in h2h combat given how poorly the character has been treated

If Jean can unlock hulk, then she conceivably can also lock him away too right?

Maybe she starts the fight and ends it

I must say that I'm a huge punisher fan, and I love this team up movie but I can't think on how they´re gonna tackle Hulk. It's completely out of Frank's level, even with Chitauri weaponry or any other kind. He's a regular human with guns. I wonder if they couldn't find a more suitable foe to fight.

Oh, and the same trope of messing with Hulk's head? By a redhead? Again?

Honestly , this makes the most sense to me given what we know of the film…

Given that it seems like Spidey might have somewhat of a friendly relationship as of now with the branch of DODC we have seen (likely unaware of what they are doing) & they are targeting people with powers of unknown origin then I wouldn’t be surprised if Jean is one of them and she’s on the run hence she views Peter as a threat to her.

I know it seems like a very different take on Jean Grey if this is all true but it feels like they may be taking some cues from her Ultimate version who was more rough around the edges & such.

This could be a scenario where all 3 try to stop her but she goes into the recesses of Banner’s mind and brings out OG Hulk again as a distraction for Frank & Peter but we’ll see.

Anyway , BND seems good so looking forward to the film!!.

"it still doesn't make much sense for the X-Men icon to debut in a Spider-Man movie". Does he need a reminder of where Tom Holland Spider-Man debuted? or Black Panther?
