THE BOYS Showrunner Eric Kripke Describes Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy As "Homelander Before Homelander"

We've known for a while now that The Boys season three will introduce Soldier Boy, and that Supernatural star Jensen Ackles will play Him. What we don't know is how this version of the character will differ from the one in the comics, but showrunner Eric Kripke has now shed some light on that.

"I think anyone expecting Jensen to show up and be a good guy, they will be disappointed. I’ll say that! [Laughs]" Kripke revealed when asked about reteaming with the actor for the Amazon series. "In the comics he’s mostly just kind of bumbling and subservient to Homelander, I would say. As we’re writing him in this, we’re getting to really talk about the history of Vought because he’s like John Wayne: He’s one of these guys that’s been around for decades of Vought history."

"And he was Homelander before Homelander, so he’s from a different era, but he’s got the ego and the ambition — it just comes across in a different way because he’s from a different time."

There were three versions of Soldier Boy in Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's series, but it sounds like Ackles will be playing the original in season three of The Boys (who, like Captain America, may find his way into the present day reading between the lines here). It's hard to say for sure what we should expect, but he's clearly going to be a pivotal part of where this story goes next.

How excited are you to see Ackles' Soldier Boy in action?
