Earlier this week, the news broke that Daredevil: Born Again will end with Season 3. Fans have been left reeling, especially as Netflix's Daredevil was similarly abruptly cancelled after its acclaimed third season.
In the revival's case, it came as a major blow, especially as the next batch of episodes will reunite the Defenders and resurrect Elektra. Now feels like the worst possible time to end the Man Without Fear's story, though he could still have a future elsewhere in the MCU.
The trades have confirmed that Daredevil: Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane has been let go by Marvel Studios, meaning he isn't on hand to finish post-production. That seems odd, but some big changes could be made in his absence.
Before the news broke about Season 3 being the show's last, The Friends From Work Newsletter published an update reading, "I heard this week that Dario Scardapane is no longer working on the third season of Daredevil: Born Again, and that the third season will, in fact, be the last."
"The final episodes of season 3 will soon undergo reshoots to make the season finale feel more like a series finale."
This makes sense and is a wise move on Marvel Television's part, as it would be a tremendous shame for Daredevil: Born Again to end with a cliffhanger or any unresolved plot threads. It's also important to note that nothing has been said about Charlie Cox's future as Matt Murdock, meaning he could now appear in Avengers: Secret Wars or a future Spider-Man movie.
Ironically, the end of his series makes either possibility far more likely. Season 2 ended with Matt behind bars and Wilson Fisk finally ousted as Mayor and forced to leave New York in exile for his crimes.
"If you're going to warrant coming back and rebooting the show, you've got to change something. You've got to up the ante somehow," Cox previously said of Season 3. "We're just trying to lean into the things that we did before."
"Disney and Marvel have been incredibly forthcoming with allowing us to do that kind of stuff, and it's just a great gift that keeps on giving," the actor added. "I’ve got to be one of the luckiest actors in the MCU."
