STRANGER THINGS 5 Stars Millie Bobby Brown And Sadie Sink Weigh In On Eleven's Divisive Ending - SPOILERS

The final season of Stranger Things has split opinions, and stars Millie Bobby Brown and Sadie Sink have now weighed in on how Eleven's story ended in the hit Netflix series.

Stranger Things 5 ended with Eleven seemingly making the ultimate sacrifice to save her friends. In a bid to end the military's continued experiments, El remained behind in the Upside Down, dying when the bridge between our world and The Abyss was finally destroyed.

The series ultimately wrapped up on a somewhat ambiguous note, with Mike imagining Eleven having escaped (with an assist from Kali in her dying moments) to the waterfalls she and Mike had hoped to see together.

Unfortunately, the Stranger Things protagonist's dying ultimately makes the most sense, and the Duffer Brothers have said that, even if she did live, El would never return to Hawkins for fear of putting the people she loves in danger. The whole thing has proven pretty divisive, even with a touching send-off for everyone else.

Now, Millie Bobby Brown has broken her silence on Eleven's fate. Talking to Tudum (via SFFGazette.com), she called the character's sacrifice "beautiful and cathartic," and added, "I just think it’s incredibly important that it all ends for her, and the suffering and the pain end."

Like the Duffers, Brown didn't definitively reveal El's fate one way or the other, but when the Kali rumours were put to her, the actress replied, "I kinda love that ending, that there is just such a bigger purpose to Kali’s powers. Everything has a purpose, and everything is there for a reason."

Sadie Sink has also shared her "hot take" on the ending during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Her take is that Eleven is dead, and the Spider-Man: Brand New Day star's reasoning was sound.

"I think she's dead, I don't know. Is that like a hot take or something? I think Mike's story is just one last story, and then they say goodbye to childhood," the actress said. "But that's just one final tale. And that's it. I think it's just like a coping thing."

There's been a lot of speculation about Netflix releasing Stranger Things' "real" finale, but in case it wasn't obvious, the show is over. A making-of documentary is coming later this month, though, and the Duffers are working on a spin-off series set in a new location with different characters.

What did you think about Stranger Things Season 5's divisive ending? As always, head to the comments section below to share your thoughts.

It's open ended until Netflix wants a S6......but there won't be one for a long time.

@mastakilla39 - Its not even open-ended. Mike literally made that story up out of no where lol.

And I dont think they would do a season 6. We'll get spinoff or a whole new season with an all new cast and time period.

@CorndogBurglar - Mike only made up the escape and ending where 11 got away to find the 3 waterfall place. But he presented a logical possibility that 11 may have survived since the sound waves to nerf their powers were actively blasting them and the D&D part about a powerful "sorceress (11)" can teleport to her friends when they are in need because she originally blasted Henry/Vecna to the abyss which started everything in the 1st place. Its not definitive that she's dead either thats why the duffer brothers said they left it open for interpretation.

Like I said if there is a S6, it won't happen for a very long time. These kids will be in their 30s by the time they come back. Its not going to come out soon like the new spin-off.

Mike's story was to make it easier for everyone to cope.

It was the equivalent of telling your little kid that their dead dog went away to live on a farm somewhere far away.

For every hint towards 11 dying, there are two that hint towards her surviving and faking her death.

If I were a betting man I’d wager that it’s over, but with all of the cope conspiracy theories going around, I’ll say we don’t have to wait very long to find out for sure. It’s either tonight 8pm est, or the 12th at the latest. If nothing happens tonight and the documentary is just that, then obviously it’s over. But I’d say is just slightly more than zero that we get something else, highly highly unlikely, but more than zero.

@MuadDib - That whole secret episode BS is just that, BS. This show is over and people need to move on. Do I think we'll revisit these characters years down the line ? unfortunately yes, as nothing is allowed to just remain complete, especially a popular show like this.

The more I think about it, the more I have more questions regarding the episode. Unless I missed anything...
1) How was Nancy able to harm the Mind Flayer with a gun when the demos and Vecna didn't get phased by them?

2) Why did they do a complete 180 with Steve and Nancy's relationship? No way you're going to convince me she wasn't thirsting for him during the entirity of season 4.

3) Why was impaling Vecna the thing to incapitate him? Again, bullets did nothing.

@Highflyer - My biggest problem was how the military just let everyone go.

They had everyone captured at gunpoint. The ONLY people that knew everything the military was up. They knew about the alternate realities. They knew they were taking kids and doing [frick]ed up experiments on them. They knew it all. All their dirty little secrets they wouldnt want to be made public. And let's also not forget how many soldiers Hopper and team killed over the course of the series.

And then Eleven dies and they just let everyone go? No explanation? No nothing.

Are we to assume the military just asked them nicely? "Please don't tell everyone all this crazy crap we've been doing, and we'll let you go"?

Seriously, what was that? Eleven dies and then there's just an instant 18 month time jump with no explanation.

Absolutely horrible writing.

@Highflyer - 4. where was the demo dogs and other creatures in the last battle?

5. Why did people stop to talk at highly time sensitive moments

6. Why did the kids give Vecna power specifically? Do they have the shine or something?

7. I thought touching the tendrils in the upside down altered Vecna? How was the military able to build their facility in the upside with all those tendrils around without alerting the demos? There fire power (expect the flamethrower) were ineffective.

I like the show but the last season was a big misstep.

@CorndogBurglar - agreed, I mean Hopper killed many soldiers; there is no way they would just let him go for that.

Let's be honest with ourselves. It's over until the inevitable revival/reunion. They didn't give a clear answer on whether El is alive or dead on purpose. It's Netflix's biggest cash cow, and in 5 to 10 years, the whole cast will come back.

I can't wait for confirmity gate to be over tonight. And then I can't wait to watch people get mad at the Duffers for not doing the thing they completely fabricated in their heads.

And while it's not exclusively Gen Z, a majority of this conspiracy shit is Gen Z, and they'll never admit they are wrong when they are inevitably proven wrong. They'll say it was either all just for fun, or move the goalposts, and not understand why that's completely infuriating.

If all the theories were just based within the show, I'd have no problem with that. Theorize away, we do it all the time here.

I'm even willing to buy that there's a lot of hints that all isn't as it seems in the end.

There isn't a single [frick]ing realistic clue within the show that points to there being another episode. It's all online, fabricated, shared psychosis bullshit. But they'll tell you "there's too many coincedences man"

You sound like Jon Stewart in Half Baked. "Ever see the back of a 20 dollar bill? Ever see the back of a $20 bill ON WEEEEED?"

I really enjoyed this show from start to finish. I started watching it season 1 with my 11-year-old Grandson and my 12-year-old Granddaughter. It was our thing as they grew up along the same age lines as the characters.

We thought the final episode was great, and the end wrapped things up nicely. I hope they never have another season or do a reboot, but we know somehow someway someday, they will.

Great show!

The theories surrounding El surviving are so convoluted its infuriating how sloppy the Duffer brothers wrote it. In order to accept El surviving, you have to accept Kali using her illusionary abilities in multiple ways. Kali creates the 'illusion' of El at Mac-Z gate, creates an invisibility illusion for El to escape & possibly pulled Mike into a void since El couldn't use her 'magic' due to the Kryptonite.

Problems with Mike's theory of El surviving is it was never shown in the show, Kali's abilities extend pass the dimensional gate into the real world. I can accept Kali possibly creating an El illusion at the Mac-Z gate since both would be in the upside down. But then how did that illusion not dissipate once the exotic matter exploded and obliterated Kali's body?

I agree with Sadie. The easy answer is El sacrificed herself at the Mac-Z gate. Perhaps, standing in the upside down while the Kryptonite machines in the real world didn't affect El. She could create the void she communicated with Mike in. No invisibility spell created by Kali. No illusion spell of El created by Kali. Kali died from her wounds at Hawkins lab well before El took her fight to Vecna in the Abyss. The only thing you have to suspend belief is El getting to the Mac-Z gate so quickly while the Kryptonite was blaring. We know El can move under the influence of the Kryptonite as shown in previous episodes. Perhaps she made one big jump into the upside down and once there the Kryptonite stops working on her. It isn't impossible but easier to accept than Mike's convoluted escape plan.

For those Mike/El fans, the Duffers never planned on these two remaining a couple. Mike was always destined in the final scene to be with the core group playing D&D. El who never showed an interest in Mike's D&D campaigns was never going to be in that scene. Mike was destined to continue playing the role of storyteller. El's destiny was to finally find peace -no matter how it came to her. Their destinies were never compatible with each other.

@String - Kali was also bleeding out during several events that probably took a lot of time:
1. The fight with Vecna
2. Everyone descending down a radio tower (I’m pretty confident they didnt even check on Kali to see if she was alive).
3. Everyone leaving the upside down which probably took a bit of times

And then she somehow survived a large explosion in the building that she was in for it to then implode.

Duffers really really fumbled here.

She makes a good point though. Why even introduce that character into the show if she couldn't be helpful to EL in some way? And as she lay dying, Kali has the ability to do the thing she thought wouldn't be possible. She gives El a shot at a real life! I like it. And, should they make a season 6 it should be about the Government looking for El but, not here on Earth, but, trying to get back to that other dimension to find her. And of course they will never find her because she's chillin' by a waterfall somewhere living her best life! I like it.
