Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Ewan McGregor Has Pitched A Yoda Story To Dave Filoni For Season 2

Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor has revealed that he's had early conversations with new Lucasfilm President Dave Filoni about a possible second season, including Yoda's potential Star Wars return.

Lucasfilm has yet to reveal plans for any additional Star Wars TV series beyond next January's Ahsoka Season 2. Not unlike Marvel Studios, it seems the idea is to restore the franchise to its former big-screen glory, reestablishing it as a theatrical property instead of a streaming one.

The six-episode Obi-Wan Kenobi was released on Disney+ in 2022, filling in some big gaps in the Jedi Master's story and pitting "Ben" against Darth Vader before their clash in A New Hope. The series received a positive response from fans, and they continue to demand a second season.

Unfortunately, it's yet to materialise, despite Ewan McGregor repeatedly expressing interest in reprising his most iconic role. Now, in an interview with Variety (via SFFGazette.com), the actor confirmed he's discussed tentative Season 2 ideas with Lucasfilm President Dave Filoni.

"It was very casual, but I said there’s got to be something," McGregor revealed. "Because Yoda’s somewhere else. After the end of 'Episode III,' when we all go to the four or five corners of the galaxy — or however many corners it’s got! — I won’t have been in touch with him. But he’s out there. So I think there could be a story there where I’m trying to reach out to him."

He even pitched a possible romance between Obi-Wan and New Republic General Hera Syndulla, who is played by his real-life wife, Mary Elisabeth Winstead, in the live-action Ahsoka series.

"I got very excited when Mary started working on 'Ahsoka,'" McGregor shared. "I thought, maybe this is the big love story — Obi-Wan and Hera."

However, before complaining about the continuity issues arising from that, McGregor said that while "time doesn’t really mean anything" in the different Star Wars "multiverses," he knows the characters were active "in different time frames." Ultimately, a meeting between the two wouldn't really work, and Kanan Jarrus is, of course, Hera's one true love.

Filoni has yet to make any announcements about his Star Wars plans. Still, that's not hugely surprising after his predecessor, Kathleen Kennedy, unveiled three movies at 2023's Star Wars Celebration that never materialised. That isn't the kind of track record Filoni wants, as Kennedy also failed to bring movies from several filmmakers to fruition, including Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron.

It will be crucial for Filoni to make fans happy, so greenlighting projects like Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 and The Hunt for Ben Solo would make him very popular. For now, we'll have to wait and see what he has planned for this Galaxy Far, Far Away.

This sounds like what we should have had in S1. Instead we got, arguably, the dumbest SW thing ever.

@ArthurFuchsache - I don’t think that is a particularly interesting story to tell tbh.

Also while S1 had its flaws writing and execution wise at times , i think they are most definitely dumber things in the SW universe lol.

I personally think Obi Wan’s journey in that was well done and using Reva (who i know people have mixed things to say as a character but who i thought was alright) as a parallel to both Obi Wan and Anakin at times was interesting aswell as the idea behind an Inquisitor who is climbing the ranks and willingly going further into the dark side to get revenge against Vader…

I mean that idea could have been its own series but it was in this show where it was decently done but could have been better if it had more space in a series that was already crowded.

I'd rather see Season 2 spend most of the time show how Obi-Wan fell in love with Satine and use that to fill in some Manda-lore
