The holiday shopping season is officially upon us, and retailers have begun hosting early Black Friday sales. Admittedly, there haven't been a ton of doorbusting deals for video games yet, but many retailers are waiting for Black Friday week to really unleash their deals. That includes game publishers, such as Sony and Nintendo.
Sony announced its Black Friday 2025 plans this week, confirming that the sale will begin on Friday, November 21st. This year’s promotions include discounts on select PlayStation bundles and hundreds of PS4 and PS5 games through the PlayStation Store.
However, tariffs and broader global economic factors have distorted console pricing throughout 2025, making this year’s deals a bit more complicated than they appear. Sony will be discounting the PS5 lineup by $100 starting November 21st: the Digital Edition drops to $399, the standard PS5 to $449, and the PS5 Pro to $659.
At first glance, these are appealing prices given the current gaming landscape. But in context, this holiday pricing simply brings the consoles back to their original 2020 launch levels.
In August, Sony raised the MSRP to $499.99 for the Digital Edition and $549.99 for the Disc Edition, price hikes of $100 and $50, respectively. So the Black Friday “discount” essentially restores the PS5 to its launch price rather than delivering truly significant savings, especially now that the system is about five years old.
If you are in the market for a PS5 this holiday season, Sony is releasing a special PS5 Fortnite Flowering Chaos Bundle. Launching on November 21st, the PS5 Digital Edition 825GB – Fortnite Flowering Chaos Bundle will be available for $399.99, while the PS5 Console 1TB - Fortnite Flowering Chaos Bundle will cost $449.99. The bundle will include the console, PlayStation-exclusive in-game content, and 1,000 V-Bucks. Over on GameFragger, we've made note of some additional PS5 console bundles that will be available at GameStop this year.
For those who already own a PlayStation 5, Sony will also be offering savings on hundreds of PS4 and PS5 games through its PlayStation Store. We can expect the usual heavy hitters to receive a discount, including Marvel's Spider-Man, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarok, The Last of Us Part 1 and Part 2, Astro Bot, and more. We don't know how much these games will be discounted digitally, but GameStop has already confirmed physical versions will be priced at $30.
