RUMOR: Marvel Studios Said To Have Big Plans For Two Major X-MEN Villains In Upcoming MCU Saga

Avengers: Secret Wars will serve as the conclusion of Marvel Studios' Multiverse Saga, and it sounds like two key X-Men villains will factor into the studio's plans for its next saga...

Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will effectively close the door on Marvel Studios' Multiverse Saga, while also ushering in a new era for the MCU by laying the groundwork for what is unofficially (for now) known as the Mutant Saga.

We know that quite a few actors from 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise will reprise their roles for Doomsday, but there is a chance that these next Avengers movies will also introduce at least a couple of new mutant characters that will factor into the long-awaited X-Men reboot.

Whether these particular villains will appear in the first X-Men movie remains to be seen, but Daniel Richtman is reporting that Marvel has big plans for both Mr. Sinister and Apocalypse in the next MCU saga. The scooper also believes that the studio "has some names in mind," but the roles have not been cast yet.

This isn't the first time we've heard Sinister's name (Javier Bardem was previously rumored to be on Marvel's radar to play the megalomaniacal geneticist), but if Kevin Feige and co. really are planning to introduce En Sabah Nur, we could see some of the most iconic and beloved X-Men comic book arcs play out on the big screen over the next few years.

Richtman also mentions that "Ryan Reynolds is making his own mutants team up movie for next saga," but this has already been confirmed by the trades.

Things are finally moving forward on the untitled X-Men movie, with Michael Lesslie working on the script (we expect another writer to join him at some point), and Thunderbolts* helmer Jake Schreier recently confirmed as director.

"I can’t say anything about it, but we’ve started work on X-Men, and that’s obviously very, very exciting," Schreier revealed during a recent interview with Empire. "There are so many things that I didn’t know about before I started [Thunderbolts*]. The biggest learning curve for me was the proportion of the action to the more emotional, character-driven scenes, and how, even though it’s more shooting days than I’ve ever had, they get eaten up quite quickly by the action stuff. By the time we got to the end of it, it felt like, 'Oh, now I feel like we get how to do this a little bit better.'"

We have heard multiple rumors relating to actors that are said to be on the studio's radar, including Harris Dickinson, Margaret Qualley, and Julia Butters (they were reportedly in contention to play Cyclops, Rogue and Kitty Pryde, but we don't know if this is still the case), as well as Hunter Schafer (Mystique) and Ayo Edebiri (Storm).

More interested in the Ryan Reynolds project than anything else at this stage honestly. Hopefully it’s an R-rated Uncanny X-Force flick with Deadpool and Wolverine and some others.

@Jackraow21 - hopefully it has a plot this time around instead of just sticking iconic comic book panels together and calling it a movie. 🤞🏾

@WruceBayne - worked for No Way Home. Its weird, the only 2 billion dollar MCU movies since End Game were pure nostalgia bait.

DP3 and NWH might have made the most, but they're also the least memorable movies and have zero purpose for a rewatch. Just keep baiting over and over because they're too [frick]ing lazy to actually adapt a storyline accurately

I'm in the super minority, but I don't have an urgency to see En Sabah. It has nothing to do with Age of Apocalypse movie being less than meh.

I don't find him all that interesting outside of Age of Apocalypse '95. No more time travel.

@MyCoolYoung - Agree. He's a Phase finale type of villain IMO.

They should go with minor villais and have Sinister closing a trilogy. Have Apocalypse here and there as a MCU big baddie.

TheVisionary25 - 9/28/2025, 4:33 PM
@MyCoolYoung - same tbh.

However if they do go that route then I wouldn’t mind him eventually being the big bad especially if they go with his Darwinian approach of only the strong mutants survive while Magneto is about the survival of mutant kind in general regardless of strength which could be interesting to explore
MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 9/28/2025, 6:21 PM
@TheVisionary25 - Yes. That's the most interesting part of him, but people only focus on making villains menacing (a very general critique), and we'd be going into Thanos territory. Even though he wasn't the strongest to survive, he spoke about the strongest will and was kind of twisted and philosophical.

Just the time travel man lol

@MyCoolYoung - lol fair enough though they may not go that route
TheRevelation
TheRevelation - 9/29/2025, 9:22 AM
@MyCoolYoung - I think it's more of a Superman situation. What we've seen in live action made us wonder if they understood the character at all given the material Oscar had at the time. Maybe that will change, but he shouldn't just be 1 and done the way Ultron was for years in the MCU either. I think it has in part a lot to do with studios grounding the films and thinking stakes must be enforced. Probably true, but comics don't work that way largely. Stop killing villains unless it serves the story in a meaningful way. Actually send a villain to Bellreve or Arkham. Villains shouldn't be dropping dead every other film. It's creative suicide.
MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 9/29/2025, 4:16 PM
@TheRevelation - It's quite the conundrum because there are only so many movies, villains, and storylines you can pack into a trilogy if that character is able to get one, so they kill the villain, which I agree 1000% with you they shouldn't. But it's also, on the other hand, when will they come back? And how cool are people with repeated use of a villain? Kingpin and Loki are two they kept coming back, but I remember before Ragnarok, a vocal minority saying it's time to move on.

I don't envy their jobs when it comes to this. I'll tell you that.

@Wahhvacado - Allow me to explain further. The actor who played her on the animated series (Lenore Zann) said she based her on Dolly Parton. Also, Dolly Parton is the Godmother of Miley Cyrus and Miley does a perfect impression of her. If we're going for Southern sass, I think she could NAIL it.

Having seen Marvel’s botched attempts at Spider-Man compare to what Raimi created for Sony I’m not sure their X-Men movies are going to be any better than the Fox ones.

@Spike101 - Kinda agree. When Fox missed it missed big. However, I can't name many MCU movies that can rate as high as Logan, X2, First Class or Days of Future Past. Then I think about Xmen Origins Wolverine or Xmen 3.

Spike101 - 9/29/2025, 2:37 AM
@Yetiman - I think some people forget the Kevin was heavily involved with these movies and possibly without the earlier ones along with Spider-Man and Blade the MCU may well have not gained the foothold it did.

I’m fine with Magneto not being the big bad or around for a bit until down the line (given the soft reboot , it would be cool if the X/Men already have some history with him in the newish MCU)…

Anyway , I’m down for Mr Sinister especially as the baddie since it might give Cyclops the spotlight given his obsession with him in the comics at one point.

I expect these new X Men will be hilariously bickering and arguing with one another with witty comebacks and a lot of talking over eachother
