Yesterday, we shared some leaked Avengers: Doomsday photos featuring scenes with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds), and Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire). Those came after months of rumours about the trio taking centre stage in an action-packed opening scene.
Now, details from a Russian Telegram—the source of several recent trailer and image leaks—detail the scene that will feature an Incursion in which Earth-10005 and Spider-Man's world begin to collide.
Despite rumours to the contrary, it's said that neither Doctor Octopus nor Green Goblin appear. Deadpool and Wolverine fight Spider-Man, though the fight is primarily between Logan and Peter Parker. While that's happening, Magneto is dropping bombs on the city, which will ultimately destroy this reality and save the X-Men Universe.
It seems the battle with Spider-Man takes place somewhere near The Daily Bugle, with the building destroyed and the remains of its signage somewhere in the background.
Wolverine and Spider-Man's battle takes place in the rain, with comic-accurate poses. Ultimately, the web-slinger's world is destroyed, and Deadpool and Magneto escape.
Logan and Peter Parker are left behind, and the shot of Professor X shielding his eyes from an explosion in the sky is the moment when Spidey's reality is obliterated. Despite that, we have previously heard of plans for the heroes to return in Avengers: Doomsday's final act and, alongside Deadpool, serve as Avengers: Secret Wars' protagonists.
The X-Men destroying realities in Incursions may seem dark, but as the comics established, either both universes die, or one must be destroyed so the other can live. That moral dilemma was faced by the Illuminati on the page, but it will be the responsibility of the X-Men in the MCU.
That paints them in a villainous light when the Avengers and Fantastic Four arrive on Earth-10005, but does an opening like this emphasise the stakes or run the risk of upsetting fans when they seemingly have to say goodbye to two fan-favourites? We'll have to wait and see.
