COMICS: Mark Millar Has Found His Artist For Upcoming Millarworld Comic Book

Earlier this week, Kick-Ass and Nemesis writer Mark Millar put out a request for any comic book artists to get in touch with him about a series he's planning to release later this year. Well, he's not only found that person, but also two more for two 2014 Millarworld releases!

With Kick-Ass 2, Nemesis, Supercrooks and The Secret Service all heading to the big screen, it should come as no surprise to learn that Mark Millar had no problem with enlisting an artists for a currently unannounced Millarworld book which will hit stands later this year. As if that alone isn't exciting enough, the critically acclaimed writer has also found two more for two of his other upcoming creator owned 2014 releases. Of course, we still have the release of Jupiter's Legacy, Kick-Ass 3 and Nemesis 2 to look forward to! Stay tuned for details and check out Millar's comments below.

It's Sunday morning and this guy just emailed me saying he's in. Huzzah!!

many thanks to all the artists who got in touch privately via the MW mods. Some people I genuinely love in there. This was a very specific project with a very specific art style in mind. Someone too photographic, for example, would be wrong because the style needs to be a little loser. So some guys I've dreamed of working with wouldn't have been right, though have been pegged for a future gig.

In fact, two of the guys who got in touch were artists I hadn't met and simply admired from afar and so have nailed them down for Millarworld 2014 projects. It's exciting and this I think has been a cool way of thinking outside the box from the artists I usually work with. It's exciting as the next three artists after Quitely will all be guys you won't be expecting, but you'll lose your minds when you see the solicits.

Jupiter's Legacy is April, Kick-Ass 3 is May and this book launches on the other side of Summer. I'm working on the first script at the moment, but have already written the ending to the series. Very, very VERY exciting. LOVE this guy's stuff and will be absolute pleasure to work with him.

Let me guess. The main character in his comic becomes a vigilante because he is either bored or a loser who wants something more with his life. See Kick-Ass, Nemesis, and Wanted.

LOL @ KaneRomita

I dislike Millar but still respect him for keeping himself in the public's eye. Not many better self-promoters out there

I don't get the hate for Mark Miller? Granted I'm not a comics aficionado like many people on this site, but from what I know of him he can be pretty good. I mean, people liked Kick-Ass didn't they? And I've read Superman: Red Son and it's fantastic (to be fair, I've only read 2 Superman stories, the other being Birthright, and I preferred Red Son).

And yes, I've also heard Kick-Ass 2 is either shit or a few steps over the line or whatever, and I have no interest in reading it either, but my point is, isn't he more of a 'hit and miss' writer rather than someone truly worthy of everyone's hate *cough* DAN SLOTT *cough*

Wow! this guy is really cranking out the series like sausage links. I wasn't impressed by Nemesis, I hope his twenty other series are better.

@ACira- There are many reasons why Millar's work gets alot of criticism. I personally find his works cynical, juvenile, crass, and vile. Every single main character in his books are just assholes who use vigilantism as an excuse for their supposedly unfulfilling and boring lives. This was incredibly insulting to comic book fans when this was done in Kick-Ass.

Dave becomes a hero because he is a loser who needs to read escapist fiction and dress up in tights to make up for his "pathetic existence." That's what the book says. We read comics because we're losers who want more with our lives. Same problem is in Nemesis. Nemesis does what he does because he is a rich douchenozzle who is bored. Horrible character motivations. Plain and simple.

Another problem is the excessive violence. Violence is a natural by-product of superhero comics. However, Millar takes it way to far without justifying it. The reason the violence in The Walking Dead works is because Robert Kirkman is able to have the violence come from the desperation of the characters, which makes the reader empathize with them. In Kick-Ass 2, the Mother[frick]er (Millar is like a 10 year old who thinks cursing is funny and cool) guns down little children and rapes Dave's girlfriend for no reason.

His writing has no structure. Things just happen randomly to attempt to keep the story going. His dialouge is distasteful and mean-spirited. His characters are generally unlikable and can't be empathized with. He is just not a good writer. The only good thing he wrote was Red Son.

Maybe he should release his 2012 and 2013 comics first. Guy talks so much crap and then never does anything

Mark Millar is very hit or miss. He has written lots of juvenile, violence-obsessed bullshit that is filled with shock value (Nemesis, Wanted, Blade vs The Avengers). He also written some truly thought-provoking, character-driven, thrilling, and relevant comic books (The Ultimates 1 and 2, Red Son). Everything else tends to fall in the middle, neither good enough to get excited about or bad enough to get mad about (Superior, Kick-Ass, Wolverine).

So he shouldn't really be hated on or praised. He has written some bold and involving comics, he's also written some over-cynical and indulgent comics. Granted, his tendency to overhype every single thing that he publishes tends to make him appear rather arrogant as well as ignorant.

So the people who always praise him and love his work are ignoring all the violent drivel he's put out over the past couple of years, but the insistent haters are ignoring all the brilliant comics he used to write. I tend to ignore his indulgent Millarworld crap, but who knows? Maybe one of these random stories he's always promoting will turn out to be a masterpiece. But I doubt it.
