Venom: POV Comic Will Retell His Amazing Spider-Man Debut From A Sinister New Perspective

Venom: POV, a five-issue limited series written by Ryan Stegman and illustrated by Carlos Gomez, arrives this December, and it's set to put a very different spin on the Lethal Protector's debut.

The classic stories behind Venom's introduction in the Marvel Universe are about to be told in a whole new way. This December, Marvel Comics releases Venom: POV, a five-issue limited series that revisits the original Amazing Spider-Man saga that introduced Venom.

However, it will retell those stories from the symbiote's point of view. The series is written by Ryan Stegman, who also provides the main covers, and illustrated by Carlos Gomez, two symbiote superstars going back to the beginning for a new spin on the stories that made Venom an icon.

This appears to be part of Marvel Comics' efforts to bring Venom more in line with the classic version of the Lethal Protector. Later this year, Charles Soule (Daredevil) and artist Tommaso Bianchi (Daredevil/Punisher: The Devil's Trigger) will team up for a new ongoing Venom series that finally reunites Eddie Brock with his alien costume.

It may surprise you to learn how long Eddie hasn't been Venom in the Marvel Universe. Following his 1988 debut, he gave up the alien costume in 2004 and didn't regain it until 2017.

During that time, Venom was paired up with characters such as Angelo Fortunato, Mac Gargan, Flash Thompson, and Lee Price. When Eddie held on to the Symbiote until 2021, it then fell into the hands of his son, Dylan, and most recently, Mary Jane Watson. Of course, even without Venom, Eddie has still had an alien "other," whether it's Anti-Venom, Sleeper, Toxin, or Carnage.

Here's the official description for Venom: POV #1:

THE STORY YOU KNOW...FROM A NEW POINT OF VIEW!

Before he was the lethal protector we all know and love, disgraced reporter Eddie Brock and a rejected alien symbiote come together to get vengeance against Spider-Man...but this time, hear the story from Venom’s point of view!

"For anyone of my generation, this story was as exciting as it gets," Stegman said. "However, it did leave a lot of questions about Eddie that needed answering. Hope I can make that happen!"

It's been confirmed that Eddie and Venom will appear in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2, suggesting Marvel Studios also has plans for the symbiote. Remember, it's been repeatedly rumoured that Tom Holland's Peter Parker will encounter the alien costume in next December's Avengers: Secret Wars
