Hawkeye Writer, Matt Fraction, Starts Campaign To Raise Money For Anti-Violence Charity
Hawkeye and Sex Criminals scribe, Matt Fraction, has started the Fifty Shades of Futures Without Violence campaign to raise money for an Anti-Violence charity. Fraction will also be matching whatever proceeds are raised.
This isn't the first time Hawkeye scribe Matt Fraction has raised money for chariity as he has mixed his works with social activism before. For instance, he donated his Hawkeye #7 royalties to Hurricane Sandy relief. He has also been donating his commision on Hawkeye apparel to the Futures Without Violence charity. Though this time it isn't because of one his works, but is in response to Fifty Shades Of Grey.
The upcoming film adaptation of the international best-selling romance novel as many of you may know has a controversial portrayal of sexual violence. Fraction recently spoke out on his blog to express his feelings on how the film and novel portrays sex and violence.
So there’s a movie out this weekend based on books that romanticize, fetishize, glamorize and normalize abusive relationships. It will make 85 million dollars at the box office and move hundreds of millions of dollars of candy, soda, and cash-in branded merch.
And while sex is great and finding someone into all the stuff you’re into is great, sex is not consent to violence, a relationship is not permission to abuse, and there are thousands of women and children who have to deal with that fundamental and erroneous misconstruing of truth and wild misinterpretation of love every day.
It is because of his feelings on Fifty Shades Of Grey that Fraction has started the Fifty Shades of Futures Without Violence campaign. As part of this campaign Matt Fraction will not only continue to donate his commision from Hawkeye merchandise to charity but will also match his donation.
