Ryan Reynolds Confirms Plans For A Fourth Deadpool Movie; Shares Comic Book Influences

During an appearance at Fanatics Fest, Ryan Reynolds confirmed that we will see his take on the Merc With a Mouth in a fourth Deadpool movie at some point...

We knew Wade Wilson would show up in the MCU again at some point (there's no way Marvel Studios was going to leave the character on the shelf for too long after the massive success of Deadpool and Wolverine), but we still don't know when and where the Merc With a Mouth will return.

Rumors persist that Deadpool will appear in one or both of the upcoming Avengers movies, but Reynolds was not part of the initial Doomsday cast announcement, and the actor doesn't seem overly keen on mixing it up with Earth's Mightiest Heroes - or the X-Men - in a more grounded setting.

During an interview with Time, Reynolds was asked about the possibility of Wade playing a "supporting role" in one of the next big MCU event films.

Though he didn't completely dismiss the idea, he noted, "If [Deadpool] becomes an Avenger or an X-Man, we're at the end. That's wish fulfilment, and we can't give him that." The actor also revealed that he's "writing a little something right now... it's an ensemble."

Reynolds has now confirmed that we will "eventually" see another Deadpool film.

"There's a few really deep cuts that are missing from the movies, I think there's a few deep cuts missing from some of the comics," Reynolds said during an appearance at Fanatics Fest. "There's certainly some stuff that I love that Fabian [Nicieza] wrote that is incredible. Gerry Duggan is a friend and an incredible comic book writer. There's stuff coming, there eventually will be another Deadpool film."

We assume this ensemble movie and the project Reynolds is referring to here are one and the same, but it's entirely possible that Marvel has plans for more than one Deadpool-focused feature.

A recent rumor claimed that the team-up film was actually going to be an X-Force movie, with the Merc With a Mouth joining forces with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Cable (Josh Brolin) and Storm (possibly Cynthia Erivo).

“Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date - Deadpool & Wolverine," reads the new synopsis. "A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier... reluctanter? Reluctantest? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to - F*ck. Synopses are so f*cking stupid.”

In addition to Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the title roles, Deadpool and Wolverine sees Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Rob Delaney (Peter), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead) And Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio) return as their respective characters, and they're joined by franchise newcomers Emma Corrin (The Crown) and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession), who will play TVA agent Paradox and Charles Xavier's evil counterpart, Cassandra Nova.

Shawn Levy directs Deadpool and Wolverine from a script by Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells.

Guess that Disney paycheck is too good to hang up the costume. But if its like D&W again, movie is just being made for the money now. D&W was the weakest out of the Fox trilogy, but still a good trilogy nonetheless.

@mastakilla39 - all movies are made for the money. The first, second, and third Deadpool movie weren’t made for free and audiences certainly didn’t get to see it for free.

@epc1122 - Obviously, but the franchise was made with purpose and sustained its reputation. Don't want to run it into the ground like DCEU just cuz its still making money. If its creatively bankrupt and there's no heart in it, just stop.

He said it himself, he doesn't want to make DP4 but its going to happen with or without him.

@mastakilla39 - that’s what people say every time there’s a new Toy Story movie that comes out and it’s generally well received and makes money. But all these movies are looking to make money. Some are just more successful than others. Hopefully if there’s a fourth Deadpool it’s entertaining but won’t know until it comes out. Dceu stopped making money which is why they went a different route. The movies in the dceu didn’t lack “heart”, I think the movies just didn’t resonate with the audience, at least at that time. I think it gets more love now than when they originally came out.

@epc1122 - Each Toy Story sequel is getting worst, 5 is the weakest rated film outta the whole franchise. They are lazily rehashing the formula of part 2 again. 5 is only doing well because Pixar let the franchise sit for 7 years, so its comeback is an event.

MCU will not do the same with Deadpool because the output of MCU films is too high and inconsistent. They always need a guarantee hit each year that make up for any flops.

DCEU didn't have any "heart" because the quality was terrible. None of them cared about making a good film, they were all fast tracked for money because they owned a hot commodity. Which we all see now ran the franchise to the ground , where no 1 wants to see anything but Batman who is flop proof.

@mastakilla39 - longevity between movies does not determine a success. It was 12 years between man of steel and Superman 25. Tron ares came out long after tron legacy. Chucky remake bombed, robocop remake bombed. Plenty of other sequels have come and gone after a long period of time and didn’t find an audience. People generally love the Toy Story characters and the movies are well received from the critics and the audience. No character is flop proof. Batman v Superman under performed and the theater cut to justice league was a disaster. I don’t believe Batman and robin did well either. Sure there are some actors and people behind the scenes who phone it in, but you can’t measure how much someone cares. At the time the actors wouldn’t say they didn’t care but then to save face after a bomb they’ll say it was just for the paycheck. Agree to disagree with most of what you wrote. 🤷‍♂️

@Clintthahamster - I type it out each time cause that’s how strongly I feel about it lol

If they are going for older storm, get DeWanda Wise to play Storm. She’s gorgeous AND she can act. Cynthia looks like a pointy turd.

I can take it leave another Deadpool film tbh even though I have enjoyed all 3 so far…

However kudos to Ryan calling out a couple of specific writers such as Gerry Duggan.

If/when we do get another Deadpool , I would love if we see him interact with more of the MCU as he did in the comics during Duggan’s run!!.
