According to a report by THR, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has just hit $1.54 billion, making it number 4 on the all-time highest grossing films list! It surpassed The Avengers, which made $1.529 billion globally, and Furious 7, which grossed $1.515 billion. Yesterday, "The Force Awakens" earned $8 million in North America, adding to its total domestic gross, which is now $750.2 million. On top of that, the film is still on track to dethrone Avatar's domestic gross of $760.5 million.
Even though the seventh Star Wars film will overtake Avatar's domestic gross either tomorrow or on Thursday, the report also adds that The Force Awakens "isn't likely to overtake Avatar ($2.78 billion) worldwide." Still, the film is consistently performing in Europe and Australia, and when it hits theaters in China on January 9th, you can expect its worldwide gross to spike dramatically.
