X-Men Star Inde Navarrette Turned Down This Major Franchise To Join The MCU As Rogue

Obsession star Inde Navarrette is now one of the most sought-after talents in Hollywood, and a new report reveals that she turned down at least two major projects to play Rogue in X-Men.

While Superman & Lois fans certainly had, and still have, plenty of love for Inde Navarrette, the actress was a relative unknown before her unmissable performance in Obsession. The 25-year-old is even generating Oscar buzz for her work, and it seems she's destined for superstardom.

At D23 last Friday, Marvel Studios announced that Navarrette will star in Jake Schreier's X-Men reboot as Rogue, a character likely to be front and centre in the Mutant Saga. If future projects delve into her ties to characters such as Mystique, Nightcrawler, Magneto, Gambit, and Captain Marvel, the sky is the limit in terms of storytelling potential.

Now, a new Page Six report offers confirmation that Navarrette is committed to the MCU. According to the outlet, she was being eyed to play Sharlene in Mattias Hoehne's Heat 2 (Ashley Judd originally played the character in the 1995 movie).

The rising star has also passed on a horror project directed by Mattias Hoehne, despite being offered at least $2.5 million to star in it. Navarrette chose X-Men over both movies, signalling that she's far more excited to play Rogue than potentially sharing the screen with Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio.

The site adds that a "prominent" Hollywood producer told them "she is on everyone’s short list right now" and that regularly turning down mid-seven-figure offers has become the norm after Obsession's surprise success.

"I really want to prove that 'Obsession' wasn’t just lightning in a bottle," Navarrette previously said of her aspirations. "This is something that I really love and want to continue doing, but of course that’s going to take time. I want people to take that time to trust that I have that capability. I also want to fall on my face publicly and have something that people don’t like, [but] maybe I do."

Going all in on a franchise like X-Men isn't a bad decision on the actress's part. Thunderbolts* may not have been a box office hit, but it was one of Marvel Studios' most critically acclaimed titles, and a new X-Men movie stands a much better chance of finding a huge audience two years from now.

Directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), the untitled X-Men movie stars Kit Connor (Heartstopper) as Scott Summers, Christopher Abbott (Catch-22) as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette (Obsession) as Rogue, and Maya Boyd (& Juliet) as Storm. Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) will play Nathaniel Milbury.

X-Men will be released exclusively in theaters May 5, 2028.

Love to see her success and her getting the equity she deserves. Imagine doing twitch streams one day and then months later you’re the hottest commodity in Hollywood. Love her story.

@MCUKnight11 - yep

Plus a character that can evolve grow and be more at the forefront which might be more exciting for her as an actor rather then a likely small part of an ensemble.

Clearly chosen because she's trendy and not because she's actually right for the role.

Should have been Sophie Thatcher

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - well thats nothing new. Shes done work, but nothing notable until her memorable breakout.

Quite similar to Leo back in his R+J and Titanic days. God 97 and 98 was mad.

JLaw when she had her rise...and even Shia when he wasn't persona no grata.

I see a similar pattern here.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - how do you know she's not right for the role? We have no idea how they're gonna depict Rogue

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Sophie is cool, I ca. See her more of a villian though... and who knows. Their clearly casting in this agre group (early to mid 20's) so in the sequels or spin offs these guys will still be on their list. There are so many characters they can get to so I think all these fan favourite actorss will likely come through at some point.

@krayzeman - There are about 10 reasons she shouldn't be Rogue. This is the definition of stunt casting
Lucasberg

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - I don't think trendy is the right word. Trendy was like the entire cast from Saved By The Bell in the early 90s or the 90210 cast.

Navarette's performance demonstrated ability and range in that ability. That's priority one when casting an actress for a character like Rogue as long as she kinda sorta can look like her. Dye her hair and have her adopt some sort of southern accent and this can be fantastic.

TheAmericanHero
TheAmericanHero - 8/19/2026, 2:53 PM
@FireGunn - you know I usually agree with you, and you and I have zero beef... But I honestly don't understand why people are taking this stance against her as Rogue. And it's definitely not just you, it seems to be pretty divided online about her casting and I really don't understand it. She looks more like Rogue to me than Anna Paquin ever did. I haven't seen Obsession yet and don't particularly plan to but I thought she was pretty fantastic in her role in Superman and Lois for what she had to work with. I don't particularly have a fan cast actress in mind for Rogue currently, but I think she's as good a selection as any. But I haven't really heard anyone list actual reasons why she would be bad as Rogue other than their personal preferences, but nothing about her as an actress not being right for Rogue. I don't see how this is stunt casting at all, to me Sadie Sink as Jean is the definition of stunt casting, as she completely doesn't fit Jean aside from being a red head, but I can totally imagine this chick as Rogue, and I'm confused why so many people can't see it.
Lucasberg
Lucasberg - 8/19/2026, 2:54 PM
@FireGunn - Her height means so little to this conversation its silly to keep bringing it up lol.

Hugh Jackman is 6 2" and has won the whole planet over in capturing a supposed to be 5 3" Wolverine from the comics. He looked enough like him in the face and embodied his personality in excellent ways that reminded of the character in the books. The same can happen with Navarette and Rogue.
Bucky74
Bucky74 - 8/19/2026, 2:55 PM
@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - I don’t see Rouge when I look at her but she’s attractive and with the right hair color (white streak) and outfit, who knows. I doubt they’ll go with the Southern accent though. Hopefully we get a Rouge/Gambit connection this time
Lucasberg
Lucasberg - 8/19/2026, 2:56 PM
@TheAmericanHero - People did the same with Ledger for Joker until they saw his perfection in the role.
Bucky74
Bucky74 - 8/19/2026, 2:58 PM
@Vigor - But did she have to actually audition or was she hand picked? My biggest concern is that all the actors said they met for the first time backstage at D3 including the guy playing Scott and Sink. That means that there were no chemistry tests which isn't good. Say what you want about goofy fun Masters of The Universe (I loved it) but the leads playing He Man and Tela had tons of on screen chemistry

@TheAmericanHero - No one looks like Rogue. That's the issue. Don't know who Sophie Thatcher is, but my guess is that OP thinks shes right for the role because shes sporting some big curly auburn hair that is a defining look for Rogue.

Who knows what they can do with Inde's look. We know she can act. Don't know if she can do that southern accent, but I'm sure that was a necessity in the audition.

FireGunn
FireGunn - 8/19/2026, 3:24 PM
@pucrepeap - Sophie Thatcher and Margaret Qualley look like Rogue (At least more than Inde)
FireGunn
FireGunn - 8/19/2026, 3:25 PM
@Lucasberg - "Hugh Jackman is 6 2" and has won the whole planet over in capturing a supposed to be 5 3" Wolverine from the comics."

I've already debunked this talking point once and I'll do it again.

1. I'd rather a tall actor play a short character than vice versa anyday, especially when it comes to action movies.
2. Hugh looks like Wolverine facial wise, Inde looks absolutely nothing like Rogue.
3. Hugh is 500x the actor Inde is
FireGunn
FireGunn - 8/19/2026, 3:29 PM
@TheAmericanHero - Sadie 100% fits Jean more than Inde does Rogue. Sadie is an actual white redhead. Inde is a latina who has nothing in common with Rogue. She doesn't look like her and I seriously doubt she can pull the accent off. But fine, I'll copy and paste my very long response to why I'd think she'd make an awful Rogue.

But to address this "She's half Latina half Australian. And yes, shes a hot young woman. She does look like her." You would not accept a half black, half white Rogue that's a hot young woman and you know it. And no, she looks absolutely nothing like her. Rogue is a pale, white, Christian southern belle. Inde is not. Now here's my LONG response.

Go watch Captain America Brave New World and Shira Haas in that and you'll see what I'm talking about. Height should be a (key word A not THE but apart of the role) decider in the same way weight or age should be. I wouldn't want a 300 pound Rogue either. I wouldn't want a 45 year old Rogue. You can like an actor, think they're a good actor, and still not like them in a certain role. I love Steve Buscemi. He's one of my favorite actors ever. If he was cast as Superman or Batman, I'd never watch anything DC related ever again. Yes, the movie overall was shit but I brought up her height because it was clearly observable and actively took me out the film. That's a problem. If I get taken out of a film, there's a good chance I won't come back in and I'll hate it. "She's an up and comer, fresh off a hit title and people want to see more of her." Yes, and this was the only reason she was cast.

I don't think she looks even remotely anything like Rogue. If she were paled and had Rogue's facial structure, I'd be fine with it but she doesn't fit the description at all. She's latina, slightly tan, and nothing about her gives off Rogue in the slightest. Also, I find the hypocrisy amazing. People always say you can't race swap characters whose race is integral to their character which I'd agree. It's why Rogue shouldn't be race swapped. Her identity is fundamentally important to her character as a white southern belle with a raspy southern accent. Even with all the dialectic coaches, I don't see Inde doing the accent that well, if she even attempts it. Not only will it probably sound off, but it'll probably look off as well. I'm sorry, but race/ethnicity does matter here. I can't take an Arizona born Latina trying to pull a southern accent off seriously. Once again, this will be another thing to take me out the movie.

I'm not exactly asking for someone that's "voluptuously built" but someone that has Rogue's presence. Rogue has a physicality and presence that communicates her power even before she speaks, similar to Wonder Woman and Storm in a way. She's supposed to be more built, athletic, tall, curvy, and an overall strong frame. I'm not asking for a bodybuilder or anything but Inde has the wrong body type. Yes, she can go to the gym but I've noticed that the standards for women in Superhero films aren't the same as men. Men NEED to fit the body type of their characters for the most part whereas the women can just be as skinny as they want. It's why someone like Gal Gadot can be cast as Wonder Woman whereas Henry Cavill/Corenswet NEEDS to get built or they aren't getting the role. There's outliers and exceptions, but it makes me think they won't really try getting her fit. I wouldn't be surprised if she stays relatively the same with barely an ounce more muscle. Qualley fits the role more based off height alone (She's also a better actress imo). Hell, Milly Alcock is 5'5" and she took me out the movie sometimes as Supergirl. The action in that movie felt so fake partly because of her height and petite frame. Inde is just as petite and 5 inches smaller. Rogue is supposed to be a larger than life charismatic character and I don't see Inde pulling that off either. I get that she's an actor and she's going to act, but everything I've seen from her suggests they'll go a different route with the character which is probably my main problem.

I am almost 100% confident they're going to go the Goth Rogue route from Xmen Evolution. There's a reason she got the role after Obsession and I think they'll make her similar to that personality/style over XTAS/Comic Rogue. It's my main fear and if they go that route I won't even bother with the movie. It's either that or they'll go the Anna Paquin version of Rogue which is arguably even worse. I don't want a watered down, insecure version of Rogue who isn't confident in herself.

The worst part of this casting is how stunt/hype casting it feels. It feels like Disney/Marvel saw the hottest new actress in Hollywood and snatched her for a major role before her momentum cooled, then figured out which X-Man to put her in. It feels like they just wanted part in the popularity. Do you think she'd be Rogue if it wasn't for Obsession? It feels like more corporate nonsense over quality.

Sophie Thatcher, Margaret Qualley, and Odessa A'Zion (Yes I think Odessa would've been better) would all be better choices.

@FireGunn - I agree with point 1 (for guys)... for girls, I don't think its as big a deal. We will find out I guess.

Points two and three are overstated. Inde in the face actually does look like Rogue and Hugh is super reliable with a long history of delivering winners but Inde is just revving her motor. Unless Obsession was a fluke, shes got the stuff to deliver well more than the goods.
