Sinister Six Concept Art Shows Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man In A Spider-Themed Underground Lab

Another piece of concept art from Sony Pictures and Drew Goddard's unmade Sinister Six movie has been revealed, showcasing Andrew Garfield's web-slinger in a mysterious underground laboratory.

Sony Pictures' Sinister Six movie, which had been scheduled for release between The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man 3, was shelved when Sony Pictures agreed to share the web-slinger with Marvel Studios.

The Cabin in the Woods director Drew Goddard was tapped to write and direct the movie revolving around Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker. He'd have been forced to become the team's sixth member after being coerced into joining their ranks by a resurrected Norman Osborn (The Amazing Spider-Man 2 cut a scene where his severed head was put on ice).

The story was going to take place in a Savage Land-like location, with the web-slinger battling the villainous team as they set out to find Pandora's Box. Could that be what we're looking at here?

Concept artist Victor Martinez has shared another of his pieces for the unmade movie, showing the web-slinger hanging out in front of a mysterious glowing device in a secret underground laboratory with spider-inspired imagery on the roof. Whether that was tied to the plot or just a fun visual reference isn't clear.

The Sony Hack revealed several intriguing details, including the fact that the roster considered Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Kraven the Hunter, Vulture, Rhino, Mysterio, Sandman, Scorpia, Black Cat, Venom, and Electro as potential members. It seems Brian Michael Bendis' Ultimate Six was a key source of inspiration for Sinister Six, but fans responded poorly to the details in those leaked emails.

"I had a big Spider-Man movie about the Sinister Six go down because of the Sony hack," Goddard previously said. "My office was right on the lot, and I saw the FBI swarm in and the helicopters fly over the studio."

"I was sad about it, but there was literally nothing I could do to change the course of events," he added. "I suppose it was better than if they hadn’t liked the script."

After movies like MorbiusMadame Web, and Kraven the Hunter bombed, Sony has put its live-action Spider-Verse plans on hold. The studio was mulling over a reboot, but currently appears focused on the Spider-Man franchise led by Tom Holland—no great shock when Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still breaking box office records.

I'm not going to mourn the loss of this one. Sony's idea of just throwing shit at a wall to see what sticks isn't the way to go about making a series of films about one of the most recognizable fictional characters ever created. Avi Arad needs to go.
Disney just needs to throw a couple billion dollars at Sony and get it over with.
I think it's hilarious that when Marvel sold the rights to Spider-Man to Sony, back in 1999, they also said "Hey, how about we throw in the rights to characters like Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, etc?" And Arad told them "No one will ever watch a movie with those characters."
Ugh.....

This would have been an all-timer. Spider-Man as an antagonist where we never see his face is such an interesting concept for a movie.

It would have been bad, but it would have been interesting as hell. Especially the cast. Jared Leto as Morbius. Michael Keaton as Vulture. Aaron Taylor Johnson as Kraven. Felicity Jones as Black Cat.

I'm just curious how they would have tied the Secret Agent Aunt May storyline into it.

Also funny that we've already seen Andrew Garfield fight the weird cross-species Rhino from the Kraven movie.
Those video games were legitimately good.

@InfinitePunches - In that Sony hack there was One email that really stood out to me. It was some guy referencing "Kraven's Last Hunt"
Basically this person was going "HERE! Look at THIS! We should go this direction." And all the replies juat poo-pooed it. Then, a few years down the road, they make a Kraven "movie". Again, Sony has ZERO idea how to actually handle Spider-Man.
If they did, he'd never be in the MCU. Again, Disney just needs to give Araf a few Bill amd this will be over.
Hell, people on THIS VERY SITE could have figured out how to handle these characters better than the people getting million dollar paychecks to put out trite like "Kraven" or "Morbius".

@InfinitePunches - The way Kraven was handled in "Spider-Man 2" was PERFECTION.
Man, that Times Square scene? Chef's kiss.

Glad it didn't happen. Sony's TAS series fell off a major cliff in the second film. It didn't deserve to continue after that cheesy atrocity.
