According to a report by Variety and confirmation from a Netflix representative, Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be available to stream on Netflix for all Canadian residents in 2016! Pretty cool, right? Even so, this leads many people to ask this big question: "Why only in Canada?!?"

Well, according to the report, Netflix Canada was able to snatch up a deal after Corus Entertainment and Bell Canada’s pay-TV agreement with Disney expired. Because of this, all Canadian subscribers will get to enjoy the epicness of Star Wars: The Force Awakens from home. However, they will have to wait eight months after the film hits theaters to do so.

The report also says that Premium channel Starz has exclusive rights to stream all of Disney's 2015 film, and Netflix’s deal starts up in at the end of the year. The way it was managed, that deal includes Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Netflix U.S. missed out on the opportunity by a few weeks. There hasn't been any word on when Netflix U.S. will receive "The Force Awakens", but there has been talk to released the original Star Wars films on Netflix everywhere.

“It’s up to Disney how they want to manage access to those assets before, during or after the release of ‘Star Wars VII.’ So it’s certainly an ongoing discussion." Those words were from Netflix's Chief content officer, Ted Sarandos. What's your take on all of this? Share it in the comment section below, and be sure to stay tuned for any possible updates!

Starring original cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker and franchise newcomers, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o and Max von Sydow, Star Wars Episode VII is set to be released on December 18th, 2015.
