Is Cody Rhodes set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

The Street Fighter star and former WWE Champion shared a photo of himself at Marvel Studios HQ in Burbank, California, on his Instagram stories. He didn't provide any additional context, but the image has obviously led to speculation that Rhodes may have met with the studio about potentially joining the cast of an upcoming project.

There are other possibilities, of course, but it's not hard to imagine Rhodes following in Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, John Cena, and Dave Bautista's footsteps as the next WWE Superstar to suit up for a major superhero franchise.

Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins also filmed scenes for Eternals and Captain America: Brave New World, respectively, that ultimately ended up being cut.

Rhodes did actually make several appearances in the fifth season of The CW's Arrow as a drug dealer named Derek Sampson.

Back in 2016, Rhodes revealed that he was "pursuing" certain superhero roles, including Black Bolt in the ill-fated Inhumans series.

"I will fully disclose that I have been actively pursuing a couple of roles, that being one," he told Bleeding Cool. "I now have uprooted, moved to LA, to look into acting more, especially after the Arrow episode and all that. So that would be the world to me if that were to happen. And we're actively looking into it. I'm all about it."

"I was really excited when I read that they're excited about Inhumans in general. Taking a chance on that. That's not something the casual comic reader really knows about, so that's really cool. Plus, Black Bolt is like one of the best characters in all comics. The idea that a simple, spoken word could blow a room up is just… I dig everything that is Black Bolt."

Assuming Rhodes is up for a specific MCU role, which heroes or villains would you most like to see him play? Let us know in the comments.

Sakura (The Eric Andre Show, Twisted Metal) signed on to direct Street Fighter after Talk to Me filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou parted ways with the project.

“Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!”

The movie stars Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Andrew Koji as Ryu, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Orville Peck as Vega, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, Olivier Richters as Zangief, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i as Akuma, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Eric André as Don Sauvage, Mel Jarnson as Cammy, Rayna Vallandingham as Juli, and Alexander Volkanovski as Joe.

@Scarilian - Captain Britain, played by a bloody Yank? Are you taking the piss? Is this some "revenge" for the fact the last 2 Spider-Men, one of the last 3 Supermen, two of the last 3 Batmen and Daredevil, Iron Fist, Colleen Wing, Doctor Strange and Wong are all Brits?

I've read Captain Britain comic books back in the day. Also, Alpha Flight too, but they were Canadian.

Interesting…

It likely was just a general meeting to discuss maybe where he could fit in the MCU and in what role but I do know he’s genuinely been a big comic book fan and especially X-Men (he’s even worn ring gear inspired by Archangel and Minister Sinister).

I’m a fan of him as a wrestler but having said that , he’s not the strongest actor so I would give him a minor role , maybe someone like Avalanche?.

Please no. Haven’t we had enough meathead wrestlers trying to act?

Ugh.

I want Alan Ritchson as Sabertooth. Now that Cody is Guile I can't see him as any Marvel Character

@FireGunn - Dude. I'm totally convinced that you have no life, no friends, no girlfriend, no job. You don't seem happy about anything here. Is it possible you're lost? Maybe comic books and comic book related things are not your thing. Maybe you should find websites about butt plugs? Because it most definitely sounds like your got something up your ass.

Prob too obscure, but if he were to become a villain in the MCU - Bushwacker from the comics would physically fit the bill

I still think Henry Cavill would be great for Captain Britain. Cody could totally pull off Cable.

The biggest problem I have with professional wrestlers acting is that they’re too iconic to be seen as anyone other than their wrestling personas. I think Cody has the build and presence for a number of superheroes, but I would only see Cody Rhodes on screen unless there was some dramatic transformation. So you’ve either gotta give them a mostly obscure character to mold into their own, or have them play themselves in a movie. Like, I could never see Cody Rhodes being Steve Rogers in the new MCU. But I could see him playing someone like Big Wheel.
