Spider-Man: Brand New Day officially introduced the MCU's Jean Grey ahead of 2028's X-Men reboot. While Avengers: Secret Wars will softly reboot the franchise, Marvel Studios has actually spent years laying the groundwork for mutants to appear.
Namor, Ms. Marvel, and Wonder Man are all mutants, and there's a good chance that Earth-828's Franklin Richards is as well. That raises some interesting questions about what the MCU's X-Men will look like, but regardless, Jean made a huge impact during her debut.
Now, photographer Jay Maidment has shared a new behind-the-scenes photo of Sadie Sink as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The actress most definitely looks the part, and seeing her suited up in X-Men promises to be a treat for comic book fans.
Some stunt footage has also surfaced today, showing a practical web-swinging sequence with Spider-Man running across a building before leaping into the unknown, no doubt moments away from firing off a web.
This didn't make it into Spider-Man: Brand New Day, though the movie did feature a good mix of practical and CG stunt work. Hopefully, the eventual Digital and 4K Blu-ray releases take a deep dive into how those scenes were put together.
"It’s been really exciting all the conversations we’ve had, and I feel really lucky that I have this introduction through 'Spider-Man' and [her] backstory," Sink previously said of her meetings with X-Men director Jake Schreier. "I think that’s what X-Men is all about, too. The more I’ve gotten into it and researched, what makes them special is that they are all incredibly flawed and maybe have done bad things."
"That makes them more compelling, complex characters and a more complex hero if they don’t start out that way. And they have to find their relationship to their powers. Because it’s not like they’ve asked for this or that these strengths make their lives easier; they make them a lot harder, actually."
The actress continued, "So, knowing Jean’s struggle will be important in the future of her character and where she goes, just makes her really well-rounded, which I’m excited for."
In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it's a Brand New Day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter that he may not have the power to control.
