Warner Bros.' Practical Magic 2 arrives in theaters this weekend, and the long-awaited sequel might just manage to claim the domestic box office top spot from the mighty Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios' superhero juggernaut has broken pretty much every box office record possible since it swung into theaters in late July (it is now the third highest-grossing movie of all time worldwide after passing Avatar: The Way of Water), but its domestic BO dominance had to come to an end eventually, and the combined drawing power of Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock may prove to be too much for the Webhead.
Despite mostly negative reviews (the movie currently sits at 34% on Rotten Tomatoes), Practical Magic 2 is expected to take in between $30 million and $40 million from 4,000 North American theaters this weekend, which should be enough to topple Brand New Day from the No. 1 position.
Though the first movie has developed a cult following over the years, it was far from a critical hit when it was released back in 1998, and was met with mixed reviews for what many perceived to be a jarring combination of different genres, including supernatural fantasy, horror, domestic abuse drama, romantic comedy, and crime procedural.
Practical Magic was also a box office flop, taking in just $68 million worldwide against a production budget of $75 million.
As for Brand New Day, the critically-acclaimed comic book adventure recently became the first solo superhero movie to reach $2 billion, and did so faster than any film in history - aside from Avengers: Endgame. Holland's fourth outing as the wall-crawler is also the highest-grossing comic book movie of the decade, and the highest-grossing Spider-Man movie ever made.
Something tells us Holland will be sticking around in that costume for a while longer!

Following the record-breaking success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man: Brand New Day begins a brand new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult and living alone after erasing himself and the memories of him from those he loves. In a New York that no longer knows his name, he has devoted himself wholeheartedly to protecting his city as Spider-Man full-time.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers. The film is produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Rachel O'Connor. The cast includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo.
