Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a comic book movie that's made an impact beyond just MCU fans. The blockbuster has grossed over $2 billion at the worldwide box office and struck a chord with people in a way that few blockbusters do.
Now, its impact is being felt beyond theaters as Tame Impala's "Loser" has reached #1 on the Global Spotify chart. The song is used in Spider-Man: Brand New Day when Peter Parker follows Ned Leeds back to his and MJ's housewarming party in their new apartment.
What makes this particularly significant is the fact that it's Tame Impala's first song to hit #1. That's the Spider-Man: Brand New Day effect in full swing, clearly.
Back to the box office charts, Spider-Man: Brand New Day grossed $6.5 million on Wednesday. It will beat Spider-Man: No Way Home's $804 million domestic haul imminently to become the highest-grossing Spider-Man movie ever in North America.
This weekend, it should also cement its place as the U.S.'s highest-grossing Marvel movie of all time, beating Avengers: Endgame's $858 million haul. From there, it will be eyeing Star Wars: The Force Awakens' $936 million record to become the biggest blockbuster ever domestically.
A new poster has also been released, putting the spotlight on Tom Holland's Peter Parker. You can check that out at the bottom of this article.
Deadline recently spoke with Spider-Man: Brand New Day Production Designer Charles Wood, who discussed the bathhouse scene featuring Peter Parker and Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova.
"That’s a built set. There’s a nice story there, because I went to New York with Destin, Brett Pawlak, the cinematographer, Jerome Chen, the visual effects supervisor, and David Kane, our producer," he recalled. "We happened to go to a place called Brighton Beach, and there was this building that we thought could have been an old bathhouse."
"Then when we thought we were going to film in Manchester, we found this old Victorian bathhouse that felt right. So, we took the ideas from that," Wood continued. "The guys built this really beautiful, hand-tiled set, and the pool was also all made."
Asked about the peculiar colour of the water, Wood added, "Ultimately, we needed to cloud the water. Florence obviously wears a bodysuit, so there’s nothing there. But, I mean, we have to do these things because of the ratings."
In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it's a Brand New Day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control.
But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves - a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.
In our review, we concluded by saying, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day is everything fans could want. Emotional, hilarious, and heartfelt, it’s an action-packed love letter to the comics and one of Spidey’s best big-screen adventures. Spider-Man has never been more amazing."
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now playing in theaters.
