Spider-Man: Brand New Day Merch Unveils "Jean Grey" Jacket; Tom Holland Teases Debuting Villain

Some new Spider-Man: Brand New Day merchandise reveals an official look at the jacket Sadie Sink's character will wear in the movie...

If Sadie Sink isn't playing Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, hats off to the studios and the marketing team for a very successful bait and switch!

The Stranger Things alum's role is still officially under wraps, but multiple scoopers claim to have "confirmed" that she has been cast as the X-Men's powerful telepath. Sink's character has only been glimpsed briefly in the trailers (with her face obscured), but the actress was spotted on set during filming late last year.

Sink was wearing a distinctive-looking jacket, which is now available at Hot Topic.

Though the item's listing doesn't mention Jean, the jacket worn by the redheaded model sports the green and yellow colors commonly associated with the mutant hero.

Whoever Sink is playing, she is believed to be the movie's main villain - although there's speculation that someone else (the Jackal, perhaps?) might be pulling her strings.

During a fan event in Paris yesterday, Tom Holland teased the various foes Spidey will be facing off against in Brand New Day.

“There’s a lot of new villains in this movie. There’s some returning villains, there’s some fight scenes with some heroes and there’s one villain making a debut.”

Following the record-breaking success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man: Brand New Day begins a brand new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult and living alone after erasing himself and the memories of him from those he loves. In a New York that no longer knows his name, he has devoted himself wholeheartedly to protecting his city as Spider-Man full-time.

But as the demands on him grow, he is put under increasing pressure. This triggers an unexpected physical change that threatens his existence, while a strange wave of crime emerges - and gives rise to one of the most dangerous threats he has ever faced.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers. The film is produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Rachel O'Connor. The cast includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.

I wonder if we'll ever get the symbiote storyline adapted, as it feels like the Man-Spider/Other plotline they are adapting here is going to hit a lot of the same story beats without the symbiote involved, that's unless they have been very good at hiding things and we get the Black Suit in this movie.

@Scarilian - So we're just pretending Spider-Man 3 didn't happen?

@Rosraf -
Spider-man 3 had an interesting adaptation of the Symbiote Saga but there's a lot you could do with the Symbiote Saga that was not explored and NWH provided the perfect set-up for the Symbiote Saga to be used as an exploration of isolation and depression that is seemingly being skipped in favor of adapting Man-Spider/The Other.

I think it'd have been interesting having a Black Suit movie and have that going into Secret Wars where you'd have Tom Holland's Spider-man struggling with his darker urges facing off against a Doctor Doom having the face of his former mentor. Though perhaps they viewed this as the last change for a team-up movie before Secret Wars acts as a reboot and trimming of the fat.

You also had potential to see how Tobey's Spider-man would react to Tom Holland's Spider-man being in the symbiote outfit allowing for a fight between a normal and black suited Spider-man. Having the Symbiote Saga done first would also mean we could have a Venom in Secret Wars, whether it be Tom Holland or bringing in Sony's Eddie Brock's Venom for a cameo now that the set-up has been explored prior.

Maybe they are saving the symbiote for when the Fantastic Four are in the same universe or perhaps just so the symbiote can be introduced in Secret Wars... but we'll see. I think unfortunately they could just skip the symbiote storyline entirely and Mac Gargan/Scorpion is Venom at the start of Spider-man 5.

I would have been a lot more interested if this was Spider-man teaming up with Black Cat, dealing with the Black Suit and facing off against Scorpion who becomes Venom than whatever Brand New Day has turned into.

I been a Huge Spider-Man fan for a long time there is NO Spider-Man comic book that has Jean Grey in it. Jean Gey has NEVER been a villain to make her one in Spider-Man: Brand New Day is stupid.

NOT Jean Grey
