SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Set Photos Feature First Look At Michael Mando As Mac Gargan; Tom Holland Returns

Cameras are now rolling on the Basingstoke set of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and we have our first look at Michael Mando as the returning Mac Gargan, aka the Scorpion.

Mando can be seen stepping from that military-style helicopter we saw in previous photos. We assume he is in-costume as Gargan here, although it's difficult to tell if the left side of his face is still bearing the scars he received in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The Better Call Saul alum has hinted that Scorpion may undergo a Venomous transformation in the movie in recent social media posts. In the comics, Gargan served as the third host of the Venom symbiote when he posed as Spider-Man as a member of the Dark Avengers.

Previous rumors have claimed that Brand New Day will feature a symbiote, but if Scorpion actually was going to become Venomized in the film, something tells us Mando wouldn't be teasing the spoiler like this!

It remains to be seen how Gargan will factor into the story, but the action set piece that was recently filmed is said to revolve around Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) attempting to run the villain off the road and put him down for good, with the wall-crawler doing his best to prevent the murder.

Speaking of Peter Parker, these photos also feature Tom Holland, who has returned to set after taking some time off after suffering a mild concussion a couple of weeks ago.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will also star Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, and Liza Colón-Zayas and Tramell Tillman in undisclosed roles. Sadie Sink's role is still a mystery, but we have heard that there will be some kind of twist relating to her character.

“I’m spending my time exploring the next stage of this amazing character with a team of the most incredible artists in the world," said director Destin Daniel Cretton during CinemaCon. "We’re all, just daily, nerding out over the suit, how to swing, how to create an event, an emotional story, and a ride that we haven’t really seen before"

"It's day one — my fourth-ever day one on Spider-Man," Holland said in the recently-released BTS video. "You know, it's funny. Putting the suit on, it feels different this time, somehow. It's also the first time we've ever had fans on set for day one, so it's really exciting to share this with them. We've got some familiar faces on set. You know, Im just going to do my best, hopefully get it right. No pressure."

Spider-Man 4 was pushed back a week from July 24, 2026 to July 31, 2026.

He had better go full Scorpian here. I want the classic outfit

@Bucky74 - Really hoping! I'm a big fan of the look from the Spider-man the Animated series look. It's a nice mix of classic and modern and I think it still looks quite good. Really hoping they don't go the Rhino route from Amazing Spider-man 2 or make it like a STARK suit modified to look like a Scorpion.

@Bucky74 -
Most likely option:

Punisher is tracking criminals working under Hammerhead - which is a group of thugs which features Boomerang, and Tarantula. The Hammerhead thugs manage to steal an armored vehicle and ram it into a high security prison, freeing several villains including Mac Gargan.

It is revealed Mac Gargan is Hammerhead's right-hand man and he's freed him to do a specific job for him - stealing a bio-weapon. Hammerhead gives him the tech suit as Scorpion provided by Tinkerer.

Spider-man faces off against Scorpion, but Scorpion manages to steal the bioweapon - which is revealed to be the symbiote. Spider-man fights his way through a 'Sinister Six' of villains and defeats Scorpion. Mac Gargan is defeated and the mobsters imprisoned, with Gargan promising to get revenge on Spider-man.

The two post-credits:

The first would be Sadie Sink's character doing the 'face it tiger' line before announcing she needs his help - revealing herself as an alternative universe Mary Jane Watson.

The second post-credit would be a continuation of the above with Peter geeking out about the multiverse as the camera pans to his suit where a bit of the symbiote has gotten onto Spider-man's outfit - teasing the black suit for Avengers Doomsday/Secret Wars and that Spider-man 5 would adapt the Venom storyline.

@Bucky74 - I thought in the comics the suit was part of his powers. After a complication he can't remove the suit which drives him insane after a while. I could be wrong though We're talking about memories that are more than 50 years old.

Nothing against Jon Watts as a filmmaker, I know covid really put a damper on shooting No Way Home, but still, the attention to stunt work and practical sets/shooting on location I think is going to be such a breath of fresh air with these Holland Spider-Man movies. I'm liking what I see.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - I hope Marvel realized they could spend a bunch of money on real shit instead of a bunch of cgi. They can enhance and polish instead of creating entirely

I Would assume they will go the Gargan route for Venom in the MCU. It makes the most sense really. We haven't met Eddie at all, or seen Peter starting at the DB, and we're 3+ movies into this franchise. Gargan makes sense here, so they're not treading on the Hardy venom movies, an it's a character that has a history with Peter, since he was in Homecoming. I think we see him as scorpion here, and then after Secret Wars he bonds with the symbiote.

Either they rush Venom into the ending of this movie OR they'll have this movie end with Gargan defeated and Peter getting the symbiote.

Doomsday could have him in the black suit.

Secret Wars would then have him come into conflict with Tobey's Spider-man due to the suit, with Andrew's Spider-man forced to intervene.

Spider-man 5 would be an adaptation of Kraven's Last Hunt with Mr.Negative (Or Kraven - with a different actor to imply it's the MCU's version) and Gargan's Venom. You could also throw Miles Morales into the mix having him join the fight in the third act to team up to defeat Venom.

Only trouble is that I'm not sure where you'd go for Spider-man 6, as Knull would likely be too large of a villain for Spider-man and potentially Miles to face off against. Green Goblin has been done, so if he were to be handled he'd probably be the Hulking monster version. They've already done Sinister Six technically and most the popular villains have been used up.

Sweet!!.

Seems like we might be having a MI:3 situation where Gargan is escaping via helicopter after breaking out of prison while Peter tries to stop him or the helicopter via webbing.

A nice mix of Ultimate Comics with classic would be pretty cool for Gargan.

Just to say, when in the chopper on close up look there is a glimpse of the scar, not suffice to be definative, and in the prior image he has a handcuff on one wrist only thus suggestive it IS in costume (was white prison attire in the homecoming end scene) and part of his escape (ie after getting out of jail and picked up in the Helicopter by an accomplice thus indicative he isn't working alone.
