MAN OF TOMORROW: James Gunn's Happy Holidays Card Leads To Speculation That [SPOILER] Will Return

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has shared a holiday card created by Man of Tomorrow art department, and it's ignited speculation about a certain Superman character's return.

Superman took us into Lex Luthor's Pocket Universe, where we were introduced to the horrifying, unforgettable Mister Handsome (played by Trevor Newlin). The creature was used to help transport prisoners via a floating platform, but didn't get a backstory until after the movie's release.

It was then that filmmaker James Gunn said, "When people ask me my favourite character from Superman, it just might be Mister Handsome. Lex created Mister Handsome in a Petri dish when he was 12 - he was trying to make a human."

"He didn’t come out so well, but he just might be the only one in the world Lex has any true sentiment for, as evidenced by the photo on his desk," he added.

With Christmas Day less than a week away, Gunn has taken to social media to share a holiday card, created by Man of Tomorrow's art department for the movie's crew members. It's a fun piece of artwork that many fans have taken as confirmation we'll see Mister Handsome make his DCU return in the upcoming Superman sequel.

That does seem likely, though we can't help but wonder whether poor Mister Handsome perished when Lex's Pocket Universe nearly destroyed Metropolis. However, if he really is that valuable to the imprisoned LuthorCorp CEO, then we're sure the villain found a way to save him.

In Man of Tomorrow, Lex is expected to give being a hero a try, teaming up (reluctantly) with Superman to battle Brainiac. Whether he'll remain on the side of the angels remains to be seen, of course.

Check out Gunn's DC Studios/Man of Tomorrow holiday card in the social posts below.

Written and directed by James Gunn, Man of Tomorrow stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl, and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag, Sr.

Several actors and characters are rumoured to appear, including Aaron Pierre's John Stewart/Green Lantern and John Cena's Peacemaker.

Recent reports have suggested Gunn is looking to cast the DCU's Wonder Woman, and while the filmmaker has remained silent on that, he did recently confirm that Steve Trevor won't appear in the Superman sequel. The hunt for Brainiac also continues, though Gunn has claimed that Dave Bautista, Matt Smith, Claes Bang, and Sam Rockwell aren't being considered for the villain.

Man of Tomorrow arrives in theaters on July 9, 2027.

I wonder if it bugs Gunn that he can't promote for people to watch the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. Of course he would be doing so otherwise.

Religious talk is gonna happen. Get over your resentment. Please continue to express your opinion (whether substantial or not) because that's your right. But expect blowback... especially because I don't believe you know enough historical, philosophical, or religious/biblical knowledge.

Good luck friend.

@KennKathleen - I love this question! We know from the account of the origin of John the Baptist in the Gospel of Luke! John's father Zechariah was the high priest. He was in the Holy of Holies, the divided section of the Holy Temple where they would have kept the Ark of the Covenant prior to the Exile. The high priest was only allowed to do this one day a year, on the day of atonement, Yom Kippur, which is in late September. He sees an angel who tells him of the role his son John will play in the coming of Messiah. John was to the be the one to "prepare the way" for Christ, which a special role prophesied by Isaiah about 700 years beforehand. Immediately after this, John is conceived. Nine months later, John is born. Then later in the chapter, it says that Jesus was six months younger than John. September, plus nine months, plus six months, puts the Birth of our Lord in late December!

@KennKathleen - it doesn't. Scholars have said it was during warm months (they didn't have the American calendar back then)

It's not about the date. It's about having a point to honor Jesus's bday.

Zechariah was not burning incense because it was the Day of Atonement. According to the Gospel of Luke, he was performing a routine priestly duty.

Luke 1:10 notes that a "multitude of the people were praying outside at the hour of incense". This matches the daily morning or evening service rather than the unique, high-solemnity rituals of Yom Kippur.

Jesus's birthday IS on the Passover. This is where we get the term April fool's, because his birth is synchronized with new life, or "Spring" season.

To the law:

Luke 2:41-42
⁴¹ Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.

42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.

This would also give reason to why there was no room in the Inn, seeing that all Israel were appointed to the homeland (Jerusalem) three times a year.

To the law²

Deuteronomy 16:16 kjv
Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the Lord thy God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the Lord empty:

Finally, Christmas is NOT to be celebrated, as it is a Pagan custom in honor of Nimrod and Tammus. The Bible directly goes against it in Jeremiah.

To the law³.

Jeremiah 10:1-5 kjv
¹ Hear ye the word which the Lord speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:

2 Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.

4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

And Colossians...

Colossians 2:8 kjv
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

And Titus...

Titus 1:14 kjv
Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

And Wisdom of Solomon...

Wisdom of Solomon 14:27-31 kjv
27 For the worshipping of idols not to be named is the beginning, the cause, and the end, of all evil.

28 For either they are mad when they be merry, or prophesy lies, or live unjustly, or else lightly forswear themselves.

29 For insomuch as their trust is in idols, which have no life; though they swear falsely, yet they look not to be hurt.

30 Howbeit for both causes shall they be justly punished: both because they thought not well of God, giving heed unto idols, and also unjustly swore in deceit, despising holiness.

31 For it is not the power of them by whom they swear: but it is the just vengeance of sinners, that punisheth always the offence of the ungodly.

... long story short- Chistmas is not of God. Santa is an Anagram of Satan, and the Israelites are commanded not to keep the unholy tradition.

...learn the commandments. Keep the commandments. All praises to The Most High!!!

@KennKathleen - All praise to the Most High.

I highly recommend you return to Romans 14. Especially verse 5. Or 1 Corinthians 10. If celebrating the Lord's arrival in December doesn't sit right with you, certainly don't do it. But don't try to enslave another to a defunct ritual cleanliness system. "Whatever you do, do it for the Glory of God."

Saint Nicholas is our brother who we will someday meet. Emulating his effort to spread the name of Christ through charitable giving is commendable. There are principalities and powers in this world, but you're not going to get possessed by a demon because you ate a Christmas cookie, fam. We have freedom in Christ.

@InfinitePunches - Have you ever heard of Schwarte Pete?

Do you know the racist connotations with the song Jingle Bells?

Do you know what the first Christmas gifts were?

Do you know the difference between not worrying about eating foods sacrificed to fake gods, and participating in the acts to appease fake gods. Cause that's what Paul was referring to in Romans.

Finally, what was being described in Jeremiah 10:1-5 kjv?
KennKathleen
KennKathleen - 12/19/2025, 6:23 PM
@lazlodaytona - We're told several times that we should not celebrate birthdays. It's another tradition of man, and one of the most celebrated customs in Satanism. To the law:

Job 1:1-4 kjv

¹ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

2 And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.

3 His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.

4 And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

5 And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

Job 3:3-5 kjv
³Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.

4 Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it.

5 Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.

Ecclesiastes 7:1 kjv
A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth.

Jeremiah 20:14 kjv
Cursed be the day wherein I was born: let not the day wherein my mother bare me be blessed.

Matthew 14:3-10 kjv
³ For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife.

4 For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.

5 And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

6 But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.

7 Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.

8 And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.

9 And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.

10 And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.

@Gambito - One thing that bugs me is when they make some versions of Luthor hate metahumans. He's a xenophobe. He wants humanity to evolve and be the superior race in the galaxy. Lex should love metas. Homosuperior. The next step towards the Ubermensch.

I honestly wish we got “Mister Handsome’s” backstory within the film itself when Clark first sees him alongside Metamorpho (which is a creepy shot) since it could have been a nice foreshadowing to Ultraman being a clone of Superman aswell thus showing Lex can essentially create life to a better extent now…

Anyway , I like Lex basically making him akin to Charon the Ferryman from Greek myth who basically takes Lex’s enemies to prison within his underworld which is the pocket dimension.

Regardless , I wouldn’t mind seeing him again since he’ll likely have a very minor role like in the first one!!.
