Man Of Tomorrow Star David Corenswet Says Superman Sequel Is "Deeper," "Crazy," And "More Mature"

James Gunn's Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, arrives in theaters next summer. The movie will once again revolve around Superman and Lex Luthor, with Brainiac thrown into the mix to really spice things up (forcing them to work together).

The Justice Gang, John Stewart, Blue Beetle, and more are set to appear, making Man of Tomorrow feel like a true event movie for the DCU.

During a recent interview to promote his new movie, Mr. Irrelevant, David Corenswet addressed how the upcoming sequel differs from Superman. Tonally, that was a stark contrast to 2013's Man of Steel, but a little too comedic at times for some fans. It seems the franchise is going to grow up in 2027, though.

"The characters are a little more mature," the actor teased. "They're going to go a little bit deeper. Not to mention all the crazy stuff. Nick Hoult in the Warsuit!"

"He’s going to be hard to fight," Coresnwet admitted, revealing that he was concerned about what that would mean for him and co-star Nicholas Hoult came to blows on set. "I’m going to rip my knuckles up punching you."

While Gunn favours comedy in his comic book movies, he's not afraid to get serious and tug on the heartstrings of viewers. Man of Tomorrow getting a little darker makes sense, especially with a villain like Brainiac in play who is likely setting out to add a bottled Metropolis to his collection.

Will the filmmaker touch on Salvation, the dimension he helped A.R.G.U.S. and Rick Flag Sr. establish as a prison for metahumans? Gunn has repeatedly said that Peacemaker Season 2 was an essential lead-in to Man of Tomorrow, so that's the hope.

In Man of Tomorrow, Superman will be forced to team up with Lex Luthor to battle Brainiac, a threat not just to Metropolis but to the entire world.

Written and directed by James Gunn, the movie stars include David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Lars Eidinger as Brainiac, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag, Sr., Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl.

Andre Royo, Matthew Lillard, Sinqua Walls, and Adria Arjona will also star. However, as we mentioned above, we still don't know whether the latter is playing Maxima or Wonder Woman. There's also speculation that Eva De Dominici is playing one of the characters, and there's always a chance the Diana Prince rumblings don't pan out. We'll have to wait and see.

Man of Tomorrow arrives in theaters on July 9, 2027.

It would HAVE to be more mature, wouldn't it?

@Lisa89 - Gotg vol 2 & 3 were more mature than the 1st film. Sure it has some silliness but the themes are deeper. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt.

I enjoyed Superman, but I did think it got a little too silly at times. A more mature tone is welcome.

@ModHaterSLADE - if Man of Tomorrow becomes the Captain America: The Winter Soldier of the DCU, I’d be more than happy with that; with Superman retaining his hopeful characteristics in dark times.

"Mature" like Kingdom Come? Or "Mature" like Deadpool?

The words Gunn and mature are an oxymoron.

we all know Gunn loves his sexual, dirty grandpa, toilet, middle school humor/comedy, which i personally cannot stand... but... i Will give him some credit... in Superman the scene between Pa Kent and Clark was fantastic and actually hit some great emotional notes.

I'm hoping to see more of that; the emotional parts but i highly doubt it... either way, ill see this in theaters
