PEACEMAKER Season 2 Finale Reveals Rick Flag Sr.'s Sinister Plan And Introduces The DCU's Version Of [SPOILER]

The season 2 finale of Peacemaker, "Full Nelson," opens a month ago, with Chris Smith and Emilia Harcourt in Big Belly Burger. Things are going well, but the credits start before we get to discover what happened between them on that damn boat.

In the present, Chris has little interest in being visited in prison by his friends, and remains convinced that he's the "angel of death." A.R.G.U.S., meanwhile, explores the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, though many of the doors are locked. One leads to a world that looks like it's made of candy, only for countless tiny creatures to emerge from the grass on the attack. They close the door, trapping Harcourt and Langston Fleury, until they're able to escape from the murderous little blighters.

Harcourt and John Economos are understandably disillusioned with A.R.G.U.S., while Leota Adebayo attempts to convince Vigilante to use all the money he's seized to get Chris a decent lawyer. They bail him out, but Peacemaker immediately leaves town with Eagly.

Back in the QUC, A.R.G.U.S. discovers a black hole that Lex Luthor tells Rick Flag Sr. in a note, "looks promising." Another world is full of zombies, and agents keep dying for reasons which aren't entirely clear (not that Rick seems overly bothered). Still, they finally discover a reality that's exactly what he's been looking for; he calls the planet "Salvation," and the plan is to use it as a metahuman prison.

Sasha Bordeaux requests a meeting with Harcourt and tells her about Rick's plans to send metahuman prisoners to "Salvation" forever.

In a flashback to the boat, we learn that Chris and Harcourt shared a passionate kiss, which freaked her out. She left him hanging, and that's why things have been so awkward between them all season.

Adebayo breaks up with her girlfriend, and Sasha helps Harcourt and Economos find Peacemaker. Vigilante tasers him, and they later convince their friend that people around him only die when he doesn't listen to himself. It's an emotional exchange between Peacemaker and his fellow 11th Street Kids that ends with them convincing him to join them. Chris asks Harcourt if their kiss meant something, to which she finally admits it meant "everything."

One week later, we find the gang—joined by Sasha, Fleury, and Judomaster—setting up their own organisation: Checkmate.

While it seems like a happy ending, Chris is later kidnapped by A.R.G.U.S. and Rick, becoming the first prisoner sent to "Salvation." Make no mistake about it, Flag is a villain, and sends Peacemaker there to punish him for his son's death. It sounds like there are creatures in this mysterious dimension, too, and Chris is currently there all by himself!

In the comics, Checkmate is a governmental intelligence agency established by Amanda Waller. The organisation took its name from the winning move in chess, and its hierarchy was modelled after the pieces in the classic board game. Kings and Queens are the leaders, Bishops oversee missions behind the scenes, Rooks plan the missions, Knights carry out the missions, and Pawns are the support staff.

All episodes of Peacemaker are now streaming on HBO Max.

Extremely underwhelming finale. Especially after Gunn says he has no plans for Season 3. What's the point of the cliffhanger?? Like, we're here to expect Superman & Luthor will team up to rescue Peacemaker? Makes no sense. Salvation will be a major part of the next movie? I don't know, it feels like a huge misfire for me.

@RockReigns - It doesn't make sense because the story isn't over.

@RockReigns -

I actually liked the ending. And I wasn’t a big fan of this season to be honest. Didn’t grab my attention u til ep 5.

Obviously Luthor and his henchmen, salvation, and Flagg will have a role in Man of Tomorrow since they were all in Superman.

This must be the most expensive comercial for a glam rock band ever ...anyways at least they droped the América hating AND Salvation Run Is on ...Is not a very good cómic but if they put all the Bad guys there including Joker AND Luthor as un the comics ITS gonna be fun

Can't wait to see these predictable dicks complain about how none of their predictions came true. Instead of going for a full-on cameo-fest, Gunn made a finale that felt good... until it didn't. People actually thought Blue Beetle was gonna show up? Wild. Anyway. Can't wait to see the 11th street kids again.

So who was the big cameo everyone would be talking about for decades to come, or so Gunn claimed ?

@TheJok3r - Is it not a person but the creation of Checkmate maybe?

@TheJok3r - He said it was a surprising cameo from 'SUPERMAN' (Luthor & friends). He said it was his favorite thing he's made. He NEVER said anything specific. He was marketing. You were disappointed. Whatever. That's your opinion. It was a good season, overall. No need to get rude.

I’m a bit underwhelmed, not even due to lack of “cameos”; it’s a finale for peacemaker where peacemaker isn’t in costume.

That being said, I guess the story of Man of Tomorrow may end up being Superman and Lex stuck in Salvation, and have to work together to escape..I mean, Flagg is pretty morally gray, he’d easily double cross Luthor and throwing him in there for some cover up, akin to Walker

thedrudo - 10/9/2025, 10:14 PM
Ehhh, some good moments but overall a pretty disappointing finale.

The biggest issue is the seasons just leads up to absolutely nothing.

Gunn clearly has a plan if there is no intention of making a third movie but it's a bizarre move.

I can't imagine scenarios outside of a series where someone like Adrien or Adebayo show up again.

@thedrudo -

They’ll show up in some other show. Checkmate will be a recurring organization in the DCU now so we’ll get cameos of these characters in films or other shows.

I used to be very optimistic about the DCU. But now... What do we have to look forward to?

Alcoholic Supergirl? Batman from the Flash director? 61 year old Hal Jordan? A Clayface movie? More of James Gunn's humor?

I'm tired, Alfred.

Really sick of the poorly written love scenes where Gunn's goldiger wife puts on the same cutesy act that she used to win him over and Cena is forced to sit there and awkwardly play along lol

Why is it bad for Rick to send super-criminals to an alternate dimension? Isn't that just the Phantom Zone?
FlixMentallo21

@InfinitePunches - There's a comic miniseries called "Salvation Run", so something tells me elements of it may factor into a future prodcution.

That episode sucked such MAJOR ASS. Outside of episode 1 I was loving this season.
Freaking went out like limp whiskey-d1ck.

And enough of the "I liked Smallville" bullsh1t. What do I mean? End of SV season 1 they had the band who played the main theme playing the main theme at the prom. F'n huge cheese-factor. Well, Gunn repeated that atrocity perfectly in this episode.
I am a HUGE Superman fan but, didn't really love Gunn's take. Didn't hate it, but it really had a ton of flaws.
Now after this (which I already didn't like PM S1), I'm really not on board with the DCU.
Literally makes me appreciate MoS. (BvS is still dogsh1t, but I loved the JLSnyderCut)

Overhyped and under delivered. Checkmate could be a fun way to balance ARGUS, but Rick’s villain turn was strange after CC and I feel like this episode was only really for the people who deeply love these characters. Anyone else think Salvation could be Dinosaur Island?
JackDeth
JackDeth - 10/9/2025, 10:58 PM
@JoshWilding - I'm not so sure Flagg is a full-on villain. He's certainly driven by his quest for vengeance, but I feel like there's still room for redemption.
TheLobster
TheLobster - 10/10/2025, 2:37 AM
@JackDeth - I mean he sacrificed ARGUS agents to find a foreign dimension he could leave meta humans to die alone in and he illegally grabbed Chris to throw him in there as revenge when he should be throwing Waller there instead.

Dude is a villain now as far as I’m concerned and it’s odd.

"I shouldn't be spending my life serving this broken system anymore."

This was an actual line of dialogue from the episode tonight.

I love this show and hope for many more seasons, but Gunn's writing reached a new level of contrivance tonight, and his woke politics are affecting his ability to write well.
