DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Star Charlie Cox Has An Interesting Response To Theories Foggy Nelson Is Still Alive

Daredevil: Born Again star Charlie Cox has weighed in on theories that Foggy Nelson will be revealed as alive in Season 2, and his response has fans convinced that he's not being entirely truthful...

Original plans for Daredevil: Born Again called for Elden Henson's Foggy Nelson to be killed off-screen by some of Hell's Kitchen's corrupt cops.

Following a creative overhaul, Bullseye was added to the show and made responsible for taking the fateful shot that ended the life of Matt Murdock's best friend. As the Man Without Fear battled Dex on the rooftops above, he heard Foggy's heartbeat slow and eventually stop (we'd later learn that Vanessa Fisk hired the assassin).

Heading into Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, the hope is that Foggy will somehow be revealed as alive. It may seem ludicrous, but there's precedent for this in the comics on at least two occasions. The one most relevant to this series, though, came when Foggy was stabbed while visiting Matt in prison and put into the Witness Protection Program.

That was during Ed Brubaker's seminal Daredevil run, and appeared to serve as inspiration for how Foggy died in Daredevil: Born Again's premiere.

During a recent convention appearance, Charlie Cox was asked about the theories that Foggy is alive—remember, Henson is reportedly set to appear in Season 2—and shared an interesting response.

"But Daredevil heard his heart stop. He's dead [Laughs]. I'm sorry. I'm very sad. I am. I love that theory, but it's wrong," the actor claimed, with a grin on his face. As you might expect, Cox's reaction has left many fans convinced that he's not telling the truth.

By the time Marvel Studios decided to creatively overhaul Daredevil: Born Again, it was too late to undo Foggy's death. Fans have made it clear they want to see more of the character in the MCU, though, so Season 2 is the perfect opportunity to reveal that he's helping the Government take Mayor Wilson Fisk down from the shadows.

You can hear more from Cox in the player below.

In Marvel Television's Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) pursues his own political endeavours in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course.

The series also stars Wilson Bethel, Margarita Levieva, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Zabryna Guevara, Nikki James, Genneya Walton, Arty Froushan, Clark Johnson, Michael Gandolfini, and Tony Dalton, with Ayelet Zurer and Jon Bernthal. Season 2 additions include Krysten Ritter, Matthew Lillard, Lili Taylor, and Royce Johnson. Dario Scardapane is showrunner.

"A masterpiece of epic proportions, Daredevil: Born Again delivers a powerful, unmissable take on the Man Without Fear," we said in our review"Putting street-level heroics on the map in a way that promises to change the MCU forever, the show is sublime superhero storytelling on a whole new level."

All episodes of Daredevil: Born Again are now streaming on Disney+. Season 2 comes to the platform on March 4, 2026.

I thought the end of Born Again already revealed Foggy was most likely alive. 🤷

Honestly , I think Foggy is indeed dead in this universe given the context/situation he was killed in…

The comic version has faked his death twice and actually died for real aswell but for the former once happened off screen when he was stabbed by prison inmates when Matt was in jail which the latter heard but never saw and the second was when he was diagnosed with cancer so Matt “killed” him in an explosion to protect him because people knew he was DD at the time.

This Foggy was killed in public with his best friend hearing his heart stop and Karen being by his side so unless the EMTs that took him were in on it and brought him back soon after which would be very risky , I think he’s gone unfortunately which sucks since I liked him but it does create for possibly more emotional routes to go like building further animosity between Matt & Dex , especially if they have to team up this season reluctantly against Fisk.

Anyway , I thought DD:BA S1 was solid so looking forward to seeing S2 as well as Foggy since I do think he will atleast be in a flashback!!.

I mean a heart CAN be restarted after it stops, there is however IRL a small window for that for chances of doing so and/or long term effects but hearing his heart stop on it's own doesn't negate revival. That said the intent seemed like he be dead-dead at the time of writing/shooting the scene but if they decide to bring Foggy back there are ways esp with the whole Secret Wars potential's regarding soft-reboot meaning some dead-deads could return due to merged timelines or whatever.

@Apophis71 - that is true though idk if they would do that.

I see this post SW MCU being just an excuse to better integrate things like FF and X-Men which they couldn’t before from the onset or a complete slate wipe.

@TheVisionary25 - I agree, I know a lot are expecting Stark and Rogers back but I'm not even sure if the original T'Challa will be back from Dead-dead but may get an aged up T'Challa Jr. Either way the main reason for going with Secret Wars is to smoothly merge in mutants and F4 without breaking continuity, just bending it with a merged timeline so that mutant were ALWAYS on 616 even though prior they weren't.

If foggy is still alive then holy shit what a massive waste of time and plot, it didnt even lead to an intense rivalry between Bullseye and Matt he gets immediately locked up and the story went off into different less interesting subplots that all just end abruptly also.

Charlie Cox is one of the best at answering/talking about these kinds of things. It's one out of the many reasons I'm glad he came back. He doesn't give canned responses, but knows how to say nothing while making it interesting.

He seems completely unrehearsed while being incredibly comic book media savvy.

They'll just throw him into the Hand equivalent of a Lazarus Pit whenever they decide to bring him back, like Elektra was. lol

I have to lead with this. It’s just so weird hearing him talk in his natural accent, which I have not heard a lot of. I didn’t even know he was English long after I had watched at least season one of the Netflix show. He comes across as convincingly American when he’s playing the role. I just don’t see how they bring him back and I would love for him to come back. Others have said about his actual death in this thread already or what seemed like his actual death. Also, why would he be in the witness protection program? Of course they could use a different route, but he’s not accused of haven’t done anything wrong. His death just seemed so convincing, but I love their dynamic so if he is brought back somehow, I’m not going to complain. I want more of Nelson Murdoch and Page if it can happen again.
