SECRET INVASION Premiere Viewership Among MCU's Lowest-Viewed Disney+ Shows; New Clip Focuses On Gravik

The first episode of Secret Invasion premiered on Disney+ last Wednesday, and we now have some early viewership data courtesy of Samba TV.

Before we go any further, it's important to note that streaming services rarely reveal official "ratings" and Samba TV only polls a certain percentage of U.S. households. However, they've done that for every MCU series so far, meaning these figures still give an indication of interest in the show. 

Apparently, 994,000 U.S. households watched "Resurrection" during its first five days of release. That makes it the second-lowest viewed series above Ms. Marvel's 775,000 households and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law's 1.5 million households. 

To put this in perspective, Loki reportedly drew 2.5 million households. 

Why is it so low? It could be any number of reasons, including the fact Secret Invasion doesn't introduce a major new superhero.

The Skrulls also weren't exactly the best part of Captain Marvel, while the marketing campaign for this one has only really picked up since the premiere (with the shape-shifters appearing in the background of ABC news broadcasts, for example). Still, this is unlikely to be the result Marvel Studios wanted.

"Secret Invasion is the MCU espionage thriller we’ve been waiting for," we said in our review of the first two instalments. "Samuel L. Jackson’s magnum opus as Nick Fury, the show delivers one jaw-dropping moment after another and quickly establishes itself as essential viewing for any Marvel fan."

I think the main reason the show's ratings are tanking is because the other shows have been terrible.

@SirDuckAlot - I've gotta agree. Aside from Loki and WandaVision I just don't think the other shows have been worth while. So people are just over giving them chances. Or at the very least they are waiting to see what word on the street is before giving it a chance.

@SirDuckAlot - I dunno. I was excited about this show and liked the first episode. I didn't watch it until Sunday morning, so I just made the 5 day cutoff.

my time right now is basically completely occupied by my wife and kids and tears of the kingdom. This isn't a show I want to watch with my 10 and 6 year old because I want to actually be able to pay attention.

Fairly sure this show is terrible also, hence why people are avoiding it. Those involved dislike the fans, dislike the comics and did not even care enough to watch the previous films

@SirDuckAlot - I think it’s more general fatigue, from the people in my life who are more casual MCU fans the trend isn’t “I don’t like the shows” it’s just “I didn’t watch that show.” It’s a lot of content to get through even removed from every other streaming show, and I think most people just don’t think it’s important to the overall story which to be fair so far it really hasn’t been

@SATW42 - Yep, I'm in the same boat as you, although I did manage to watch last week's episode on Wednesday. My kids (girls) are 7 and almost 4 and don't really care about the show and I'm trying to get them and my wife interested by selling it as a mystery/spy thriller show and not a superhero show, but I still end up rewatching the episodes on my own, like when I'm stuck in a meeting for work that has nothing to do with me (Ex: my work laptop is all screwed up and I can't do any work right now and it's 102 degrees outside, so it's a good time to rewatch Ep. 1). As it is I still haven't made it past the first episode of "Andor" or watched any of the "Assembled" shows or that new Stan Lee documentary because... time and life.

And for us it's any and all Mario Switch games on the weekends (Party, Kart, Brawl, and Odyssey). My oldest even had me fire up my Wii so we could play Mario Party on that last weekend. Then she lost and got all pouty about it and vowed to never play it again. That is, until next weekend 😉. So I feel ya.

@supermanrex - I'm with this opinion. It's summer time and there is just too much food weather to enjoy. I'll give this a binge watch eventually but it's not a priority for me at the moment.

@SATW42 - I have the opposite problem, I have the time but haven't watched yet due to my fiance being who I watch these with and she's been busy on tears of the kingdom haha. But I am keen to get started on the show and the game also when she's done haha

@Kadara - exactly it just baffles me that they base the success of a show on immediate viewership. its not the same as network tv where you miss it ...well you miss it back in the day until reruns. DVR changed this and showed a pattern of behavior that people prefer to get to shit when they are ready not when a time is forced on us. and now with streaming and it just sits ready for us at anytime it should be even less emphasis on short term ratings. i dont care how good a show is the fact remains people got shit to do and they will sit down when they good and ready. this show could see a massive surge in week 4. but the boo birds and hot take trolls are just finding anything to attack right now.

@Origame - That's pretty much what I thought too. In the end, it wasn't one of the most anticipated MCU shows at all, otherwise people would have tuned in at least for the first few episodes before the ratings start declining.

I just didn’t watch it yet bc I haven’t had time. I also just don’t like a weekly schedule I’d rather just mute all the keywords on Twitter and binge a few episodes at a time

@Nemesis17then - its just straight hate for hates sake now. trolls trolling and people jumping on the bandwagon to hate on shit and not watched a single episode. also its quite stupid to judge a streaming shows success on immediate numbers. its streaming and its not going anywhere people might want all of it at once and will wait or maybe let a few episodes get under the belt before watching too. its always this end of the world hot take headline because the entire world didn't tune in on night one for something that can be watched at your convenience.
