MTV Names THE DARK KNIGHT RISES As Their Top Movie Of 2012; THE AVENGERS Ranked At #5

Another prominent film website has released their "Top 10" list of movies to be released this year, and this time it's from our friends over at MTV News. The Dark Knight Rises is their #1 pick, but the placement of The Avengers may upset warring Marvel fans. Check it out!

The guys over at MTV News have published their "Top 10" movies of 2012, and as you can see from the headline above and list below, it was Christopher Nolan's final Batman movie which really impressed them this year. Why? Well, here's their explanation. "How do you follow up one of the best comic book-inspired films of all time anchored by an immediately iconic performance? You go bigger. You raise the stakes. And you put an exclamation point on the end of it. That's what Christopher Nolan did to close out his awe-inspiring take on the legend of Batman in "The Dark Knight Rises," and it's why it's our favorite film of 2012." Fair enough. As a mainstream website, they certainly have a good grasp on what the regular moviegoer enjoys (unlike a lot of other similar lists we've seen recently), but their decision to put The Avengers four places beneath The Dark Knight Rises may not sit well with some! Django Unchained seems like the only real glaring omission from this list, although that could be because it's not out until December 25th. Check out their selections below and be sure to sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

1. The Dark Knight Rises
2. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower
3. Looper
4. Zero Dark Thirty
5. The Avengers
6. Skyfall
7. The Cabin In The Woods
8. Silver Linings Playbook
9. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
10. The Hunger Games

avengers should be ahead of looper. i love batman and this franchise but they were wrong about the avengers it should be higher. but its their opinion so screw it. besides they still have more movies to put out so they will rank higher next time

I love whenever ANYONE puts TDKR on a top films list, all the bitchy haters trash the publication.

Sore losers.

I enjoyed TDKR. But I don't know why The Avengers is #5 on this list?

While I enjoyed TDKR you must admit it was full of plot holes.

so they've seen The Hobbit then? & still placed it in 9th place? haha TDKR wasn't a great film but it was a decent ending 2 Nolan's run. N it doesn't deserve best film of the yr or w.e they're shooting 4. I heard good things bout Looper & Skyfall tho.

The Avengers at #5? Behind Perks/Wallflower!!??!!
The Hobbit anywhere in the top 10 is just plain wrong.

@ blueorangeny - Your right. Every movie has plot holes and mistakes and flaws in some way, shape or form. There are ALWAYS movie mistakes and flaws.

Try watching TDKR more than once, promise you'll notice there aren't NEARLY as many "plot holes" as people bitch about.

"How do you follow up one of the best comic book-inspired films of all time anchored by an immediately iconic performance? You go bigger. You raise the stakes."

*chuckles* Even most of the fans of TDKR admit it is not as good as TDK. Not sure how that is going bigger and raising the stakes. To each their own. Just the opinion of some editors at MTV. Cabin in the Woods is on the list? Where's Moonrise Kingdom? The Hobbit just got released so they didn't put a lot of time into thinking things through very well.

ALL I CAN SAY IS "STUPID IDIOTS", THEY JUST DON'T HAVE A CLUE. IF YOU STICK DARK KNIGHT @ #1, THEN AVENGERS HAS TO BE #2. ALTHOUGH I WOULD FLIP THESE TWO AROUND, AVENGERS SHOULD BE #1.

I'm not going to talk about how Amazing Avengers is, because it had it's problems too.

But TDKR was a pretty crappy movie honestly, there was so many times during the movie I had myself asking 'WHY?'

So many motives and decisions just made everyone in the movie 'horror movie stupid' in a lot of ways, and I just couldn't get over so many things that happened but got no reason or explination of how, and honestly, the movie was a 6.5/10 for me, which is saying a lot because TDK was a 9, easily.

dubWookWook@ Larger scale doesn't translate into being a better film, so MTV's reasoning is skewed by the mere fact they used that reasoning....and name calling is a the best way to discredit any kind of point you try to make.

The should just go ahead and rename MTV as PRT. Poor Reality Television network. I don't know if MTV can be taken seriously by anyone anymore, except the youngsters who get off on the pathetic shows they air.
