In a year full of hit comic book movies like, Deadpool, Batman V Superman, Captain America: Civil War, X-Men Apocalypse and Suicide Squad, movies such as Warcraft and Assassin's Creed fly under the radar unnoticed. Video game movies have been very disapointing to date, while others like Resident Evil and Tomb Raider have their followers, but fall way short of being a hit. This is where Assassin's Creed and Blizzard's Warcraft enter. These movies, if done right can catapult video game movies from "MEH" to must see. Is it guaranteed that both of these movies will be a hit? No, but Ubisoft's words (taken from their blog) regarding Assassin's Creed are very encouraging for fans of the franchise.

Having already visited the set, we can’t begin to describe how surreal and exciting it is to walk the real-world halls of Abstergo, or see the intricate replicas of Assassin weaponry. They continue We have an outstanding cast and crew that want to honor the rich lore of Assassin’s Creed and bring a fresh perspective to the ongoing battle between Assassins and Templars that’s fit for the big screen.

They also confirmed the rumors that have been floating around the past few months about the future of the Assassin's Creed video game franchise noting;

This year, we also are stepping back and re-examining the Assassin’s Creed franchise. As a result, we’ve decided that there will not be a new Assassin’s Creed game in 2016. Since the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity, we’ve learned a lot based on your feedback.

Assassin's Creed Unity was met with much distaste at launch, due to the fact that the game wasn't a polished product, but it ended being an okay game after a series of updates. Not releasing a game in 2016 is what the franchise needs, they can take their time and make the next game in the series one to remember. They once again reaffirm their commitment to the series by saying;

We’ve also updated our development processes and recommitted to making Assassin’s Creed a premier open-world franchise. We’re taking this year to evolve the game mechanics and to make sure we’re delivering on the promise of Assassin’s Creed offering unique and memorable gameplay experiences that make history everyone’s playground.

Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender), a descendant of the mysterious secret society the Assassins, must use his deadly skills to battle the powerful Templar organization. Assassin's Creed will be in theatres on December 21, 2016

The movie is apparently looking good AND Ubisoft isn't crapping out another yearly entry, COD-style?

2016 is the year of CBM's but it's also the year of video game movies.

Ratchet & Clank, Warcraft, and Assassin's Creed and they all look promising.

Sly Cooper was also slated for 2016 but the same studio behind the Ratchet & Clank movie are making it. R&C was supposed to be a 2015 release but got pushed back to 2016 so I imagine Sly was pushed to 2017.

Please let this be an R rated film... Given the fact that every single game has been M rated. These games were made for adults but it's have an adult Assassin's Creed movie. Thank you

I think this movie is going to be amazing. Macbeth was outstanding and was absolutely dripping with atmosphere. Cant wait to see what they do with this.

YES. [frick] YES to all this news. Real life halls of Abstergo....good God yes. Chills.

The last good AC was Black Flag. AC3 was a load of shit, the only thing I liked about AC3 was the intro of the ships but Black Flag really capitalized on it.

Loved the Ezio games and Black Flag. Haven't played AC since because Ubisoft went on a COD masturbation fest to release a new bullshit game every year.

This next game I will give a go because surprise, surprise, we gamers want a game YOU DEVS actually care about. Twats.

@kakinurmawth - Rogue was good, it's like an indirect sequel to Black Flag with ship battles and everything. Also, seeing the story directly from the opposite side of the coin is pretty cool. Syndicate is also worth playing, the grapple gun almost gives it an Arkham series kind of feel.
