Batman and Robin might have been ugly in the series but still yielded a great moment. When they were chasing Freeze down the arm of the giant statue Bats in the Batmobile and Robin on redbird screaming "I can make it" Batman shuts redbird down remotely so he cannot attempt to make the long jump. Robin questions batman's trust in their partnership.

Man, it's hard to narrow it down to just a few. I don't know, lemme see here.. off the top of my head- for the comics:

The Long Halloween- There's this one part where Bruce is sitting at the head of the stairs in his mansion, and he's just lookin' into the front hall. He's thinking about his father, and wondering how different his life would have turned out if he had still been alive, and Alfred just quietly walks up to him, places his hand on his shoulder, and says that he misses him too. I mean, it's a very small moment.. but it's just so heartfelt. No matter what he does, no matter how old he gets.. Alfred will always see Bruce as that heartbroken kid trying desperately to make up for his parents' murder.

The Killing Joke- The ending. It's one of the few times that these two guys have reached a sort of.. quiet understanding.

Son of the Demon- Probably the closest Bruce has ever come to something resembling happiness. Ra's accepts him, Talia loves him, and they're actually looking forward to a future. A child. It doesn't last, of course.. but it still shows you how differently his life could turn out if he wanted it to.

The Dark Knight Returns- The return. Badass. Not much more to say, really.

I also really liked this one story called Death and the Maidens. Basically, Ra's is dying and, in an attempt to save his own life, he asks for Batman's help in exchange for allowing Batman the opportunity to speak to his dead parents. He eventually gives in, of course.. but it's never revealed whether his parents really spoke to 'im, or if it was just a part of the hallucination.

Either way, his parents words stick with him. They tell him that they're "disappointed" with the path he's chosen.

Aren't they always.

@Nomis

Yeah, I remember that one. Basically, the laughing stops because Bats' snaps Joker's neck. It's a helluva theory. Chilling.

I mean, I don't think that's what happened, but it's a very interesting idea.

What pops to mind immediately for me is that time when Batman was running on no sleep and Jezebel Jet/Joker/Dr. Hurt had planted in his mind (...but not really) that he could be going insane, so he comes up with this like back-up Batman in his head (because he had a contingency plan for if he thought he was going insane) and when he tries to rescue Jezebel, some shit happens and he gets buried alive, six feet under, in a [frick]ing strait jacket. And even Joker's like, "This [frick]er is gonna escape. Just you watch." And Batman calmly describes how he makes his escape (slowing down his breathing and heart rate, picking the locks on the strait jacket, benchpressing 600 lbs of dirt as it's rushing into his mouth and suffocating him). Just incredible.

Another moment that pops to mind is in Justice League II #1 (the one from 1987), Batman walks in on everyone fighting with Guy Gardner and Gardner won't shut up, and Batman just calmly walks up to Guy and bellows straight into his face, "Sit DOWN!" Guy shuts up and Batman begins his business. Just really shows how long of a way Batman's mere presence goes.

As for non-comic moments, his trolling in the Injustice Gang episode and the episode where he doesn't sleep and says, "My superpower is that I just never give up."

@nomis If you look at Alan Moore's script, it honestly doesn't look like Batman killed Joker. I think it says that they fall into each other and share a laugh like two old friends or something like that. It's Bolland's artwork that makes blurs Moore's intentions there.

I somewhat prefer Grant's interpretation, though. Specifically, I prefer the idea of Batman and Joker dying together. There's a panel in The Killing Joke in which Batman stumbles or something and then he stares intently down at his palm (I'll find the scans later). I like to think he had accidentally pricked his hand on the needle Joker had clapped that one real estate agent guy with on the back, and so Batman realizes he is dying. Batman's final gesture toward the Joker is to offer to help the Joker, and when he refuses, Batman takes the Joker down with him. The last few panels show the Batman had at last crossed the line.

But yeah, based on Alan Moore's script, that probably didn't happen lol.

@nomis I was referring to Alan Moore's Killing Joke script. I'm in class right now so I can't pull it up, but google it. It indicates both Batman and Joker are still alive and just sharing a laugh, appreciating the absurdity of the moment or something along those lines.
