There has been a lot of negative reactions to the "controversial" casting of Ben Affleck as Batman in the forthcoming "Man of Steel" sequel. But is the harsh criticism warranted? I don't think so - at least not yet. We've heard a lot from the majority about why its a "bad idea", and how this is the worst casting ever - and that somehow somewhere the thought of Ben Affleck as Batman has ruined the image of character in people's minds forever. I've come up with 5 reasons I think Ben Affleck will be an awesome Batman ... and more importantly, Bruce Wayne. I'm strictly talking this possible Snyder/Nolan-verse image of the character.(PLEASE BE ADVISED - Strong Language at times)

My name is Rick - I'm a huge Batman fan from Buffalo, NY. When I was a kid I was immediately drawn to the character by both the 60's series, and the Tim Burton movies. When I got older I followed "The Long Halloween" run and it kind of brought me to that threshold of obsession. Since then I've been very passionate about the character and the stories.

I would give Affleck a chance. If history of this site has showed us anything, it is that there is no trusting in fans opinions when it comes to casting of CBMs.

Why should articles like this stop? You are obviously interested in it, so there's a market for it. Clearly, articles like this should continue.

Here are 10 reasons why Affleck will destroy both the Batman and Superman franchises no matter how many people try to defend his casting...

1). I have seen Argo and it basically proves Affleck cannot act. His performance was bland and un-expressive. There is nothing in Afflecks resume that suggests he can be a good Batman. The one time he tried a similar role Daredevil, he did not do well, said he felt humiliated wearing a superhero suit, and vowed he would never do another comic film. If you were hiring someone for whatever, would you hire someone who expressed disdain for doing a similar job...multiple times.

2) He is too tall. He will tower over Cavill who is 6'1" that will look awkward. Sure they could use camera tricks but why not just hire someone who could more easily interact with Cavill.

3) just because a couple of actors and Kevin Smith thinks Affleck might make a good Batman, there opinion is somehow better than the 90,000 + around the world that signed the petition against Affleck? They have watched the same movies as everyone else and as a result their opinion is not any more relevant than mine or yours.

4) Affleck as Batman will ultimately create a problem for the story. Affleck does not look old enough to be coming out of retirement. If Zack Snyder potrays him as being active as Batman he might need to spend precious movie time explaining why he sat back as the world was attacked and did nothing.

5) People claim he such a perfect choice, yet nobody outside of Warner Brothers even considered him as a possibility.

6) He will overshadow Henry Cavill. Thus far Cavill has been lost in the conversation and has become an afterthought...in his movie! Because he is a more established star, he will hog the spotlight and take away from the opportunity to further explore Superman.

7) There is no reason to reboot the most popular Batman ever who led the most critically and commercially successful superhero trilogy of all time. Affleck will be compared to Christian Bale and will almost surely not measure up.

8) Everyone keeps hyping up Affleck's directing. However he is not being asked to direct so it is irrelevent. Also the fact that he won an Oscar means nothing. Ang Lee won an Oscar BEFORE he made The Hulk. Halle Berry won an Oscar BEFORE she did Catwoman and it did not make a difference.

9). People keep bringing up the surprise performances of Heath Ledger, Anne Hathaway and Michael Keaton as proof that Affleck could surprise everyone. Here is the difference... they were working with highly talented directors who could bring that performance out of them. Affleck is working with Zack Snyder whose LAST three films were rated rotten on the Rotten Tomatoes website.

10). There is an old saying that to be successful you should "give the people what they want. " The people have indicated what they want in two billion dollar films...and what they don't want with petitions and online comments. The sheer number of the public relations firms putting out articles to try to convince people to accept Affleck is a clear indication that they are starting from a negative. They are not going to change many minds so Warner Brothers would be wise to cut their losses and follow the old addage.

@forthas all of your reasons are your opinions, the petition was created by people that clearly dont know much about the film industry or creating art through images ans language.

"the petition was created by people that clearly dont know much about the film industry or creating art through images ans language."

You would need to know all 90,000 people in order to say that for sure...so your statement is also an opinion.

Yes! My statement is presented as opinion since there is no possible way to know for sure, but the point is that like in a lot of situations in life we have to make educated guesses because after the fact is too late. That is what I am presenting ... simply an educated guess.
