UPDATE: Spider-Man: Brand New Day Is Big Potatoes: Officially Becomes Biggest Movie Ever In North America

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has once again made box office history, beating Star Wars: The Force Awakens to become the highest-grossing movie ever at the North American box office.

UPDATE: The official Star Wars social media accounts have now congratulated Spider-Man: Brand New Day for breaking The Force Awakens' record.

"Impressive. Most Impressive," Lucasfilm wrote. "From a galaxy far, far away, everyone at Lucasfilm sends massive congratulations to Destin, Tom, everyone at Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios and the entire team behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day on setting a new domestic box office record and taking the crown from Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

It took a couple of days longer than some analysts predicted, but Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now officially the highest-grossing movie of all-time at the North American box office.

Only 47 days passed before the web-spinner's latest movie beat Star Wars: The Force Awakens' long-standing record. As of Tuesday, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has grossed $936.773 million, handily surpassing Episode VII's $936.6 million haul.

The movie, which followed the hugely successful "Home" trilogy, is also the third-biggest blockbuster worldwide, behind only Avatar and Avengers: Endgame

Spider-Man: Brand New Day was always expected to be a box office hit, but no one imagined it being this big. From the start, the movie exceeded expectations, topping Avengers: Endgame's opening weekend record with over $360 million. It also became the second-fastest movie—after Endgame—to reach $1 billion globally.

While Sony Pictures has shared a celebratory message on social media today, the studio has yet to officially announce Spider-Man 5. We're also waiting on confirmation for Spider-Man: Brand New Day's 4K Blu-ray and Digital release dates.

"Thank you to the fans for helping Spider-Man: Brand New Day make cinematic history," Sony wrote. "It’s now the highest-grossing domestic release of ALL TIME at the North American box office. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, exclusively in theatres."

In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it's a Brand New Day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter that he may not have the power to control.

But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves - a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.

In our review, we concluded by saying, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day is everything fans could want. Emotional, hilarious, and heartfelt, it’s an action-packed love letter to the comics and one of Spidey’s best big-screen adventures. Spider-Man has never been more amazing."

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now playing in theaters.

Not bad for the fourth entry in the third cinematic adaptation of a character, seventh overall appearance by this actor, and ninth movie overall (not including animation).

@KetracelWhite74 - especially considering it was only a decent movie.

Never thought I'd see the day come when Force awakens would be dethroned domestically.

@MCUKnight11 - me neither , especially if EG couldn’t do it.

Spidey did what the Avengers couldn’t , he beat Star Wars.

@MCUKnight11 - i mean ..is a god awful movie whit zero cultural impact in this era ...how many milenials or zoomers have you heard saying "ooh gee whiz ..The Force Awakens change my life"

@MCUKnight11 - inflation every record will “eventually” always be broken when ticket prices go up up up. I love BND and as impressive as this is, you have to take ticket sales into the equation. Neither Starwars or Spiderman has that record

@MCUKnight11 - Its a different generation. Star Wars was for people my age who saw it in theaters as a kid. Marvel and Superhero films are whats hot for young folks now. All the college or high school interns I work with said they can't get into Star Wars or the OT because its too outdated. Realized I was lucky enough to be born at a time to experience the golden age of both.

If Star Wars wants to make a huge comeback, it needs a reboot for a new generation that also draws in old heads too like Spiderman 4 just did. De-aging or resurrecting dead actors to try and tell more stories doesn't work. The future of Star Wars is bleak because their most popular actors and characters are all dead or too old to reprise their roles. Then the new set of characters aren't interesting because they are all just rehashes or worst versions of their most popular characters.

For those who say blck widow should not have been shoved in here. Im sure you are well aware now how huge Florence is as an actress and the allure her presence has. With the bonkers money this movie made and it's success, it further validates thw producers decision to include her. Whether that means more avengers appearances in future movies for connectivity that feels forced.. we will see

But I dont see that as a bad thing!

Vigor - 9/16/2026, 11:45 AM
@Vigor - not saying she's the reason for it's success. But it certainly didn't lose them any money

@Vigor - plus while they don’t bring attention to it in the film , Yelena has also been someone who has dealt with isolation as we saw in Thunderbolts so moments like when she realizes something is off with Peter hold more weight to it when we know what she has gone through too.

@Vigor - I had no idea that she was in the movie until I saw which is amazing in this day and age. So far at least for me, more Yelena is always a great try hung. I love how she interacts with other characters such as Peter and especially Kate Bishop, including always calling her by her full name. 😂

I pray that this sends a message to Sony/Marvel in regards to what type of quality films we want from the Spider-Man franchise.

Damn man , I mean we knew it was likely going to happen at this point but still crazy to see…

Congrats for it’s truly astounding success to Destin Daniel
Cretton , Tom Holland , Zendaya aswell as the rest of the cast & crew given that not only is it a highly successful film financially but also just quite a good movie overall as well.

Anyway , I like TFA but I feel BND is better so I’m glad to see the superior film imo win out at the end!!.

The petty part of my says “eat sh!t, judgmental, nerds. I hope this humbles you.” Not only did that box office haul for #3 not sit well, but the studio is ready to bring Cameron back down to earth some.

The REAL part of me says that this really is a good movie. It felt like a proper shift into the new saga. It’s essentially an X-Men movie when we find out what’s going on, and that was cool. The tone and camera work were great. The CGI was believable. This satisfied me, at least.

It's a good film. Tho it's not a billion dollar good film.

Disney and associates prob paid for tickets to help interest people into Doomsday due to their previous subpar track record.
